i changed my engine from a 998 to 1275. filled in the log book and sent it off telling them about the engine change, included the new engine number. ive got a letter back saying i have to prove the engine size and i quote
"very few manufacturers produce an engine size of exactly 1275. If your evidence does not provide an accurate engine size, it may be rejected".
For fucks sake are they all retarded down there (no offence, love south wales went to uni in Swansea). im going to have to take it to a garage and get them to approve the engine and sign it off on headed note paper, what a waste of time.
am i going to have to take the head off and have the garage measure it ?.

do you know the registration of the vehicle it came out of (metro i'm guessing)?? Perhaps you could write to them/ring them telling them to look at their records for this vehicle and it will show its registered as a 1275. might work??

nope i dont know the reg of the car. nor does the person i go the engine off.

photo copy the haynes manual spec and send it to them?

yeah thats a good idea. or get a copy of the original metro brochure, i'm sure its on tinternet somehwere.

they must be trying to get there act together, in the past i changed a car from an A55 to a mini with out them comenting, also changed from 998 to 1275 to 1380

ill give them another ring. pain the is ass thing is that its some little old lady at the end of the phone who doesnt have a clue.

Cant you just make an engine number up? And tell them you know the size as you built it? Thats how I would argue it. You could back it up with soome written calculations based on bore / stroke etc. Provided it is within the emmisions for the MOT you would think it doesnt matter. The would be better spending the time chasing tax dodgers and illegal imegrants that are driving without a licence or insurance. It knda makes you think it aint worth telling them! Just swap engine numbers over. Thats my rant for the day!

that was my original thought and truth be told i was running around with the 1275 in for a while without telling them. it appears that all she want is for someone to look at the engine number and write on headed paper that they have look at it.
what a load of shit. originally i changed the engine number on the V5 got it back and reallised i hadnt changed the cc. sent it back again and then rather than the V5 i got theis letter. you'd think by having the enigne number they would know the engine size.
Apparently all engine changes have to be varified now.

The DVLA are so infuriating, making it more difficult to do the right thing!

Most the time its better to tell them fuck all.

Given how often engine changes etc are these days....and how insignificant the block is....I really dont know why they bother with engine numbers anymore.

tell her the engine is actually 1274.98675 cc and you apologise for her being a fucking stupid ho.

i recall a time when you could write the words "Cooper S" on changes and the log book would come back as a Cooper S..........never did this myself but saw it done many times..... clamped down on that one they have
