Well I tried to post this earlier but it all went tits up and then it re-appeared on another post I was writing.........
so I'll try again................................

O/T I'm sure but this link is well worth looking at....

http://mpsallowances.parliament.uk/mpslord...lowances-by-mp/

We live just outside Ipswich, a one hour Intercity journey to London that I used to do quite often and wifey does about 2-3 times a week.

However my MP (who is supposed to be one of the more honest ones) requires a second home and has charged me (the taxpayer) for electricity and heating, more than five times the amount I spend on the same for a large 4 bedroom house that we actually live in every day of the week.

And then he adds the same again, plus a bit more, for gardening on this second home.

If I add all his expenses together just for his second home, it is more than I earn a year......

If only UKIP or BNP or any Independant would stand in my consituency (but they don't) they would get my vote.

But it looks like it will have to be yet another modified ballot paper with my own added line of "None of the above".

I have had about enough of this, who cares, not me. I work for a company that does work for the MOD so my wages are paid indirectly by the tax payer. Do you want to see my expenses? If the company would pay for a second home for me I would have one, after all I am not stupid. Just because it is 'tax payers money' it doesn't mean we have any more right to it.

No thanks, that's down to your employer who is not me.

Fine, down to the shareholders or owners of the company.

??? Well actually I believe I have a right to consider how my tax is spent....

And I don't believe that it it should be spent five times over what I pay over the cost of my main home, for a so called "second home" by someone who is basically a "c*****l" but it's Ok because it's "within the rules".

I too have had expenses from my previous company, but all were not only "within the rules" but also totally justifiable.

There is no way my "MP" can justify a fuel and electricity bill nearly five times mine for a "second home".

End of rant

EDIT- just type your own MP into the search field on the link I gave and see how his/hers expenses compare to your own salary.....

My MP = Buy 2nd home in London less than an hour from constituency, have tax payers pay utility bills, some maintenance and decoration fees, pay the mortgage interest > £1k/month.

Eventually sell 2nd home ... profit!

Even better, marry another MP and take twice the advantage!

"But the Fees Office agreed so it must be correct!" lol

I know how you feel, I get anoyed when people take liberties. It's not fun finding out if you still have a job by checking the bbc news either. Bloody greedy bankers!!

I work for a bank that is 43% owned by you lot. Firstly, thank you all for keeping me in a Job. I really appreciate it. Secondly I worked damned hard and I earn my bonus every year.

I claimed £58 for a meal for me and Wifey the other day. It was offered as a gratuity for giving up my weekend when the power failed at one of the data centres and the bank stopped working.

My point - There are always 2 sides to the story and sometimes things like expenses can be used as a reward of kinds. But i agree with Rod. A lot of the MPs are just taking advantage of the system.

I don't vote either. I don't hink any of the current parties represent my beliefs/values. They are more interested in themselves. I think the whole system of government needs overhauling. What do they do?? Sit in parliment and jeer at each other like children??

My MP is Alan Duncan, he is a cad and a bounder and had to step down from the shadow cabinate. For as long as there have been MPs there has been corupt MPs. they get found out, fine. But this kind of witch hunt over a couple of light bulbs is just too much. If you are going to get upset about MPs be prepared to turn into a grump old bastard. Lighten up and gen on with what matters.

If I had to live in one place to be eligable to be employed, but then had to work in London on a regular basis I would expect my employer to cover my living costs in London.

If the rules for what can and can't be claimed were as shitly written as the MP ones then I would have claimed as much as I could. And anyone who says they wouldn't is either lying or stupid.

Of course, they all took it to extreems and it's bit them on the arse.

Its just britain the government has always been currupt and always will be, the only difference is that its come to light due to the recession

They will change a few odd things but once the economy goes back to normal so will the MP's expenses

I work in government and used to get really angry with how my council tax was being spent, i dont get angry any more you cant change politics or the people that work in them there a breed apart so its not worth getting wound up about

hahaha, ALL govenments are corrupt, I would suggest compared to lots of others Britain lags WAY behind in the corrup steaks.

Claiming for a duck house is just a laughable level of corruption, it makes us look quaint. Making millions from dodgy arms trades is propper corruption!

what pisses me of is they claim all this money in expenses, tens of thousands of pounds because they can,
when our guys are going out to afghanistan and coming home injured or not coming home at all, there family's get fuck all in comparison and if it wasnt for private insurace payed for by themselves most of the injured can barely live,

they get payed peanuts to begin with, abit more on tour and no worth while support after getting shot

i dont care what they claim for tbh but from the bits ive read imo alot are taking the piss

I will try to dig the story up, but i'm sure it was the new Doncaster MP who has basically shock up how his town was run and got rid of loads of people. He seemed like the kind of guy who knows what the public want!

I don;t blame them for claiming it, hell i would if my employers would let me! i blame the people that make the rules, they don;t need second homes, hotel rooms are fine if essential. It works for my company, and we are keeping our heads above the water! (just)

I don't really have an opinion on this other than I think it is the system that is at fault. The culture of MPs expenses has been going on for centuries and in most cases they are reasonable. It's just a few bad apples that have abused the system.

The problem with MPs is that they spend most of their time rubbing shoulders with people from business that do exactly the same thing. It's quite normal in business for these things to go on. A Chief Exec may buy himself a yatch on expenses for example. I'm sure it one of those things the MPs brag about after a few drinks.

What annoys me is that the people who shout the loudest and dig the dirt are the ones most likely to do the same if they had the chance.

I have put a £7k Miglia engine on expenses! What does that make me?

There is a fairly obvious difference if you own/run your own business - you have to justify your expenses to HMRC who look after the taxpayers interests by applying a set of rules that are clear and transparent to everyone.

I too can offset certain things against tax under HMRC rules which apply to business and society at large, and whilst those rules may not be entirely fair (depending on your political persuasion), they at least have some sort of moral basis.

MPs on the other hand, made up their own rules, significantly different to those applied to the rest of society, and made sure (until very recently) that the information was withheld and policed by themselves and a lot of people think their rules had very little moral basis. :)
