hi chaps, i need to fit new baulk rings to my gearbox. its a fast road car. what do people use? gen rover or minispares competition?

are the competiton ones suitable for road cars? are there any issues with wear rates (of the baulk rings or other componets) when using the competiton ones?

i asked this in the beginners part, but have not yet found the answer im looking for.

advice much apreciated.

thanks

When I rebuilt my gearbox, I looked at the original bulk rings and refitted them, as overall they looked better then the minispares competition ones I had just bought. Though others may have experiance with the minispares competition ones.

If the original ones are OK, I always use these.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

they need replacing, got a few gear change crunches.

other than that the gearbox is fine. is it worth chaning the needle roller bearings as matter of course whilst its apart? thanks

rebuilt my box with minispares ones, tried to use 4 of them but couldn't get it to run freely. Ended up using 2 new(1st 2nd) and 2 used

place the baulk rings on the gear cone you want to aim for about 1mm between ring edge and syncro teeth.

any less then they may crunch between gear changes.

but try old ones first

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

i got a new box built up by med, i cannot remember what baulk rings they used but they went tits up in 2 mins, they replaced them at there cost with gen rover, taken just over 4000 miles abuse and still going strong with no probs

thanks. looks like this concludes that gen rover are the ones to go for.

a mate of mine used the comp spec ones and had to pull the box apart as they where sticky. from the 4 points of wear in the cone id say a heat treatment process deformed them during manufacture.
