Give us a bit more info on the car, spec, mileage , condition MOT etc etc.

As a guide, both the standard clubmans that I have bought cost £400 and had either no engine or a blown engine and required a reasonable amount of welding to get them back on the road.

I payed £700 for my estate that was standard, and needed a fair amount of bodywork. And mechanicals.

Pictures would be a great help.

No mini that old is mint unless its had a fully documented restoration and got a price tag of 6K+.

It will have been plated and oversilled at some point. Make sure you give it a good prod and you are happy with it before you spend more than 600 notes on it. No good having a super engine if the body falls apart as soon as you look at it. I would also be dubious about a 'neat' looking car that old, its bound to have filler in places it shouldnt

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Haha wasnt expecting that may replies lol
this is the advert;
I have owned minis for 25 years and this GT for 6+ years. Due to a change of motoring interest my cherished GT is up for sale. Original bodyshell that has had extensive bodywork and respray in May 2008. Bill Richards 1310cc A+ engine producing 80+ bhp. New gearbox, 3.44 diff, central oil pick-up pipe, quickshift, HIF 44 carb, KN, stage 3 head,1.5 roller rockers, piper 285 cam, centre main strap, adjustable duplex timing chain, oil cooler, electronic aldon dizzy,facet fuel pump, minisport 4 pot calipers, vented discs, rear minifins, spax shocks. 13" Revolutions + spare. Nice interior, Cobra classics (few tears and now showing their age) walnut dash, 90mph speedo(original GT clocks faulty but supplied with car) 3 auxilary gauges, start button, bicycle speedo(spot on accurate), 6 disc kenwood system, battery cut off switch and fully alarmed. This car is not concourse but is in very good condition. You will and can find things to fault like engine bay bulkhead and under-bonnet have surface corrosion and boot is not newly painted either. The wheels have some kerbing and 1 locking wheel nut cover is missing. Nothing major but just let the car down abit. MOT March 2011 and taxed july 2010. The last 6 photos were taken on 3/2/2010. This GT gets loads of attention where ever it goes and a real crowd puller at mini shows. Now needs a new owner and enthusiast to enjoy

Extensive body work could mean anything. Without physically looking at the car, you will never be sure what it means

My car has had 'extensive body work repairs' by a previous owner. It mainly consisted covering half the car (including structural bits) in body filler. Hiding all the rot and out of shape panels. *angry*

All you can do is go and have a look. Take a trolley jack and stands or ramps and have a good look underneath. Also take a magnet (wrapped in a cloth to protect the paint work) to look for filler. Check the panels gaps etc and don't be scared to lift carpets, companion bin bases etc etc. Have a look at all the usual rot spots - skuttle corners, arches, boot floor, sills, floors, wing corners meeting the skuttle, front subframe mounts etc etc.

If you don't know the car, never make an offer without viewing it.

Personally I would bid on the item and just put in what I want to pay. If you don't get it then it's not enough.

It does look tidy from the pic's, but then a picture hides thousand sins

Shows no pics of the underside, i'll bet its plated up and got oversills. Wouldnt buy a car like that without, seeing it in person, or, expecting the worst.
