A hillclimb engine with the worlds first big valve K head on a Mini from SC. The engine had its first outing last weekend at Wiscombe and finished 1st/2nd in class on the Sunday and 1st in class on the Sat straight out of the box it posted a time 0.5sec quicker than the 09 K Sprint engines best. Father and some both agree they need to adapt to all the extra power they have now - result!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I wish I could see this, no tube in work. Wiscome is VERY weather dependant!!

They won't stick a chance when we return next year.

Looks great, and awsome power, lots of revs, just what i like. Im interested to know, in terms of useability say on the road for example, when not on the power and stuff, how does something like this compare to a well worked 5 port with a 300+ deg cam.

jetblick - I ran a 163hp K in one of my cars on the road, previous to this was a very well developed 1380 running a genuine 135hp. The K would tick over at 1000rpm, pull top gear from 1400rpm, once above 4000rpm theres not a lot would touch it - certainly not a 1380 5 port with a 300 deg cam!

This race engine was remarkably civilised and I'm sure could be run in a road car with no driveability problems.

Tempting isn't it?

I have a feeling something like this would be an infinately more capeable weekend warrior than a heavily boosted 5 port!

Im sure its just my eyes playing tricks, but those ram pipe look massive! Overall, are they the same length as the standard throttle including your ram pipes?

Thats very cool that you can have that power and those revs whilst being more tractable than a 5 port.

Something like this is going to have to be the next step for me I think, bit pricey mind, have to check down the back of the sofa.

Matthew your eyes do not deceive you for this engine spec it needs long inlet and very different cam timing to work. If you overlay the graph with a regular sprint motor they are pretty identical to 5500rpm then the valver goes for it with style!

I'll post a pic up soon of the engine in the car

The car is Tony Bonfields which he runs with his lad Ben

200hp - we'd need a 5 bearing crank for the revs that would need.lol!
