This car is now SOLD.

FOR SALE on behalf of my lovely Mum.

1978 1380 Clubman Estate.

EDIT 20 Feb 11: Reduced from £1400 or nearest offer to £1000.

PM me if interested or text/call me on 07719714999.

Viewing - no probs, best at weekends but can arrange an evening after work in the week if prefered.

A few shots shown below but 70 photos are available to view in my Photobucket account at :

http://s857.photobucket.com/albums/ab140/turbominivanman/

If you have difficulty accessing the photos, PM me with your email address and I can email you.

Details :

Fully restored to show winning concours condition in 1997 and shown in Mini Magazine in July 97.

Photo’s available from comprehensive body resto album and numerous show attendances. All Mini Mag original positives can also be supplied with the car.

Driven since restoration up to expiry of Tax & MoT in June 2009 then laid up outside since rebuild (the space in the garage being used for my 10 year van restoration !).

Bodywork :

Bodywork actually not in too bad a condition – a few cosmetic patch repairs required to scuttle areas and wings but the shell has been waxoyled and polished since 1997 and would not require more than a few hundred quid thrown at it to clean it up, prep and respray. I just don’t have the time to put Mums fave Mini back on the road so she’s asked me to get the best price I can for it.

Reasonable condition with very sound floors, front subframe, footwells (Camlo plastic underarch liners fitted), inner wings, engine bay bulkhead, inner and outer sills, rear doors, body sides, all rear valences, all three door steps, rear heel boards (subframe mount panels) and rear load bay area. The wings and scuttle have not not perforated but have patches of paint missing at the scuttle ends, plus some light corrosion on the A panels. The bonnet has a number of holes along the leading edge and is probably fubar, as are both side window surrounds/frames. The car comes with a very good secondhand bonnet and both LH & RH side window frames which are mint, both sourced in order to do a second resto but alas, no time.

Flush fitting aero fuel cap and modified tank inlet (tank renewed Apr 09).
Mini Special colour coded wheelarches and black piping.
Twin 7 inch driving lights.
Bodycolour is Ford Imperial Blue Pearlescent – full body respray, inc boot and engine bay.

All chrome (bumpers, handles, grill etc) is complete and in very good condition with no dings or dents. All locks use a single key and have new barrels.

Spec :

100 bhp (79bhp at the wheels) 1987 MG Metro engine bored to 1380cc, 25k miles (97-09).
73.5mm cast Omegas.
36.5 x 29 gas flowed ported cylinder head cut to Vizard spec in 1996.
Std MG cam, sintered rockers, HP HC oill pump, Duplex timing gear.
HIF44 carb and MG Metro inlet manifold.
Facet Silver Top fuel pump & Malpassi filter/regulator.
Orange diaphragm clutch.
Pre-engaged starter
65DM4 Electonic MG dizzy, coil & silicone leads.
Recon MG Metro gearbox with 3.105:1 CWP, centre oil pickup and hardened diff pin.
Maniflow full LCB single box system with extended rear pipe.
Minispares 2 Core Rad with additional electric fan and dash mounted switch.

The engine runs and idles very well but is a little smokey at idle – I recall I did some previous fault finding and decided it needed new valve guides and seals. It does sound particularly nice at full chat – a lovely deep throbbing burble. The fuelling and ignition was optimised on a long dyno session by ex Downton mechanic Steve Harris at Harris Motorsport, hence we know it’s a 100 bhp motor.

Wheels, tyres, brakes, suspension :

12 inch Minilight ('Ultralights' - same as 'Superlights') alloy wheels with Falken 165/60x12 tyres, all well above the legal limit and in very good condition.
Late front discs, calipers and shields from a 1991 Cooper 1.3Spi Cooper.
Rear radius arms, brake back plates, wheel cylinders, shoes and Cooper S spacered rear drums renewed Jan 09.
Front & rear mudflaps.
Spax adjustable shocks.
1.5 degree negative camber front bottom arms.
Adjustable rear camber brackets (set to give 0 degrees camber).
Uprated donuts.

Interior :

MG Metro recliner front seats plus rear seat professionally retrimmed with material removed from original Metro rear seat.
Red Cooper 1.3 Spi carpets. Rear load bay trimmed to match.
Dash rails, door cards and headlining re-coloured in grey Vinylcote.
Rokee burr walnut dash, CD Radio and auxilary gauges
Cabriolet triple dash
MG Metro red front seatbelts
Professionally fitted Britax rear seatbelt conversion (for Mum’s grandchildren – very useful).

Many thanks.

Richard.

I was actually going to ask you the other say if you fancied selling the estate, little out of my price range though unfortunately. Good luck with the sale!

Yeah.

Cheers guys.

Galls me a bit to see it go as its gotta be the best motor I've built. Just pulls like a train. Better than the turbo motor in the van for driveability.

Oli, I've changed the price to 'nearest offer' so why not PM me with the figure you had in mind or come over for a second look.

As for VTEC conversion, you could easily sell the 1380 and convert this car. Was thinking of doing that myself but time's against me and my Mum as we're trying to sell her house and there'll be nowhere to put the Clubby.

I think for the money, and the small amount it would take to put it back on the road, its quite good value. The engine, box and brakes alone cost me nearly £2000 in 1996/7.

Just needs some clubby lovin !

Richard.

Price reduced by £400 to just £1000.

It's gotta go guys and beneath the blue paint and a few scabs there lurks a fantastic shell, a 1380 and a great interior.

Richard.

Bargain Richard. Why don't you get it posted up to on clubman estate register?

Andy500: yeah, a bit too far tbh, but many thanks.

Eden: have tx'd you back. You're not that far away, bout 90 mins. Postcode is SN13.

Gotta get as much for it as I can as I need to get me Mum mobile again. She's after a Ka or Corsa, Micra somut small and a 100 bhp Mini is a bit much for her nowadays.

Cheers guys.

Andy.

Just missed it by the look of it. A can appreciate the distance thing, been like that for me a couple of times and it does get to me on occasion.

Anyway, we're hoping that collection goes ahead this weekend.

Many thanks for your kind words.
