hi

i was wondering how much of an effect the rear valance must have on aerodynamics.

would i notice a differnce if i were to chop it off compleatly, or drill some holes in it to let the traped air pass through it?

if i was to chop it off compleatly i would keep the rear bumper, but if i left it on i would remove the bumper. and probably drill some holes the valance.

im just not sure what to do and im near the stage of either de-bumpering, de-valencing and or getting the hole-saw out! *surprised*
once iv compleated tubing the rear arches!

the car is being built as a weekend toy/trackday mini.

thanks
josh

I would hole saw it, more standard looking, well in comparison to de valencing. The other option would be to make an underboard type thing that would smooth the underside.

i had rust on my rear valance so i chopped it off. i then cut down the rear bumper mounts and welded the bootfloor back to the rear panel. then made new tabs for the bumper similar to the miglias

I personally like the look of the rear valance which is why on the TT we fitted an under tray. For aerodynamics I think this is best as it smooths the whole under boot area. If done nicely you won't be able to see it either.

Agreed.
My car is debumpered & deseamed, and I noticed a big increase in high speed stability* once I fitted an alloy undertray.

Ive just been thinking about this at work, as I like the look of no rear valance. Would a road mini pass mot without 1 fitted?

one day boost will be mine!

Sorry to hi-jack but with regards to undertrays how do you deal with the exhaust? Leave it between the car floor and undertray or keep it on the outside?

The turbo build has finally started

ive considered moving the gear linkage into the car and raising the exhaust up more into the tunnel and enclosing the tunnel with a sheet of ally. does mean its going to bet pretty hot, but with lagging and heat shielding should be ok

is there any pictures of minis with holes in the rear valance and no bumper? that would help me make my mind up i reckon.

would it have a big effect on the car? or is it only realy a problem as it goes over 100mph? what about low speeds like 0-6etc?

sorry loads of questions! lol

Well, on the TT it goes through the boot floor, but that is because there isn't one. Also the rear box is small enough to fit in the tunnel so it is just pip round the undertray.

Fitting with something like an RC40 style back box would be more difficult and less advantageous. I think it would work ok with a centre exit, that is what I am planning.

Paul Wigginton has one on his Sprint with a reasonably conventional exhaust. I've searched, but I can't find the pictures of it.
