Don't know why, but there was only a very slight drop in top-end power notable...

What made me wonder were rusty and green spark plugs...

*surprised*

And, as thought but not hoped; disaster...

Late march, when I put the car back on the road, I noticed that over winter a bit of water had vanished in the rad. That was probably that. Cylinder 2, 3 & 4 have water damage, 2 & 3 are down to 7 & 8 bar compression, with a new gasket. So I suspect the rings have had it, as it also burns quite a bit of oil...

And this can't be a dodgy gasket - it's a NOS gasket from 1985! *hehe!*

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Oh dear ........ *frown* those bores look very tierd ........... *Idea* time for a rebore new pistons etc..... there

usually 2&3 blown between is detonation cause................... but you want to be using a decent torque wrench most gaskets fail because most peeps use their grandads torquewrench........it was ok when he was a lad .....lol *hehe!*

sort the detonation and the torque figures

keep us posted *smiley*

Detonation could be a cause - I think that could be possible, as I indeed had - occasinally - problems with that. In low rev-high load situations. The engine made a 'pinging' noise (not unlike the noise when you would hit a manifold with a wire brush, a light, high 'pink'). Is this detonation?

Serves me right for not sorting that out in time, I guess... :(

I have another low-milage spare engine waiting for installation,as soon as I have the time to do that...

It's a n/a engine, btw. :) (1275, ~10:1 CR, MG cam, Inno large valve head, HIF6, ported manifold, LCB/RC40)

Torquing down the head; do you re-torque the gasket? Latest approach I heared was to torque it down as per manual, and tighten the nuts another 20° after one full heat cycle (adjusters out & all studs oiled). Without losening them first!

Cheers,
Jan

Australia oi oi oi!

What about if it has been torqued down cold already? Just go back over it to check it's 55ft ?

Jan, maybe consider getting a head modified to lower the cr and run the turbo on this N/A engine? I have done this for years with no problems and a Benross head *smiley*
