Good price if its in working order.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

If it's been student owned and probably not had oil changes I'd get close ups of the gears, look for pitting on the teeth. Probably add £150 for basic rebuild bits as it may well need stuff like baulk rings and some bearings plus the right size thrust washers to put it all back together (don't forget you also have to pay carriage to get bits to you once you've measured up for them, unless you have lots of spares). Then you have a good idea where you are at.

Straight cut boxes generally don't have easy lives, or they wouldn't exist... 10K is a lot.

A 2nd hand SC gearbox is rarely worth anything at all.

Mine was secondhand too.

I've not even touched it since owning it and it's had some decent abuse with no problems at all.

Just have a good look over it before handing any cash over.

Once you've replaced the primary gear bush, mainshaft and the laygear + shaft, the price would be near indentical.

I'd NEVER buy a gearbox without it being in pieces.

S/C box in our van was used and owes us less than a new one with all new bearings etc fitted and is spot on.
