Theres no sepcific number...

But the rear plate must be iluminated. It can be does so from behind.

Generally, it must also be fitted, secured, working, correctly positioned.

Positioned refers to the ability to light up the plate... so a blub on the roof isnt going to cut it!

the MOT testers bible is on line and it tells you all the things you do and don`t need ..basically , brake lights , 1 wiper and 1 washer jet , horn and except for normal safety tests thats about it .

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

if you have any queries on construction and use i may also be able to help....however my font of knowledge ends at one particular point "HARNESSES" ok scenario is mr cannybody has a j reg mini turbo, only has two bucket seats (nowt in rear) does he for the purposes of mot have to have the factory seatbelts fitted, or can he have his 4 point rally cross harnesses fitted ? or does he need to look crazy and have both sets in the car again 1 for race and one for gannin to the shops ???

good point ! so if you are running directional tyres and you have a normal spare, you will be commiting an offence if you use it. NIGHTMARE

what about space saver wheels, I thought it was an offence to use wheel of different sizes along the same axle, but most new road cars have at least 15" wheels, and a 13" space savers, is this legal?

yes. yet another good point mate the space saver wheel is a specially constructed wheel to the safe structural integraty for the car. if you read closely when using the space saver, you cannot exceed certain speeds (usually 50mph) the space saver however becomes illeagal if you are using directional tyres, as it states in the construction and use regs that you cannot mix tread types on the same axel. the car firms dont tell u this when selling you optional tyres. little weazles ! hehehe
