Thinking of spending all my £10 Christmas money on a Video Borescope lol, but I want to get a good one, does anyone have one on here (I know we used yours Rob) that was great but can't remember the make?

haven't got the details of mine to hand but it was supplied by survey solutions. having said that, some of the electrical wholesalers do them with a 1m lead as opposed to the 4m one on mine. no idea on quality though

Well Aaron I'm just wondering weather to rebuild it this year, so was thinkjing of having a look around inside her. I should do as it's breathing now and never does before, but it's still making oksih power so really not sure.

Maplins do a couple of scopes and IIRC they had a USB connection to a PC.

No idea on the quality of the picture though

ive got one you can borrow matt, dont use it anymore.....
Decent enough image to check bore wear and piston condition.

I don't know what your budget is but we just got a couple of snap-on scopes in at £300 a piece.

have a look at the obedient ones as well; the camera scope is larger, approx 16mm as opposed to 5.5mm, but it will allow you to look around and not just see straight ahead or right angles.

What will you be using it for ?

A friend has a Snap On one with built in screen etc. And TBH I dont think it's that hot at all.

Half the time if you're needing to use a bore scope, you already know the engine needs to come apart, so it's a waste of time using it.
And the little mirror things that are supposed to let you see backwards, really arent that good either.

Certainly not high up my essential toolbox list.

Stevie, Very good point. I've also use the snap one one (one of many i'm sure) And the quality was no good IMO, couldn't pick up fine enough detail. I just fancy one to look around the engine while it's still running ok in the hope to see any problems before they go big and cost a lot!

Is there such a thing as a fibre optic extension that can be used with a normal camera ?

If it is just for a nosey though, a laptop based unit might be best. I'm sure a lot of the cost of a Garage spec one is in the rugged case and screen unit/batteries

Yes got one, Just posted a link up with it. I went OTT with it, and bought a good one. I found the cheaper ones had to big a head so went for a draper one with a 5.5 mm head and does video, really good feature so you can study it later.

i'v got the snap on one, but as stevie said never use it as a bore scope, as if you need to use it you already know the engines had it lol. it is however invaluable for doing "blind" work on modern cars. crank position sensor on a bmw without removing the starter or the inlet. for example :)
its also great for inspecting turbo's in situ without removing lots of pipework. most turbines can also be inspected through lambda holes. as well as checking for melted cats. but none of this is really any use on a mini tbo.
