My understanding is that torque steer is caused primarily by the unequal lengths of the drive shafts (and I've certainly experienced going the wrong direction during take-off in the past). Has anyone found a good counter to this? Maybe someone is making a stiffer shaft for the long side, or a slight adjustment to the wheel geometry that won't affect tire wear?

I'm sure kad do an equal length driveshaft kit.
An LSD also helps.
Failing that, hold on for your life!

Not quite right. Do a search on here this theory has been discussed in detail. It may have some affect (especally if you run hardy-spicers) but it is not the main reason.

The main reason is sspension set-up and wheel off-set.

Scrub angle is the real cause, the distance between the king pin angle and centre of the tyre contact patch. Wider wheels with small offsets exaggerate torque steer. As Wil says, there a comprehensive thread somewhere on here.

I looked for threads, but didn't find anything comprehensive or what seemed conclusive. I'll have a look, again. Thanks, all.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Increase the caster to 5.5 degree this helps somewhat!

dont recall it being discussed on here recently but its a subject of mass-debate over on the 16vminiclub the last few months as a few lads have finished builds with the usual 7*13 wheels and wide arches and are realising the pleasures of that combo on regular mini suspension without a keen eye on geometry, scrub radius and corner weights..

I am sure robert (at least i think it was) posted here about the great lengths he went to with the standard mini hub setup machining parts to reduce the scrub radius.

your right denis , i machined each wheel and hub so the wheel moved in 10mm .this gave a total inset of 13mm .still way too little , it should be around 35mm inset .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

changed from 7x13's with -7et to 6x13's with +16et, thats a 23mm change to the scrub radius... the difference between life and death...

Or put 10mm steel under the steering arm.

How will this help exactly?

It was done by ERA to minimise the angle to the steeringbox. So the rods are more horizontal and you have less toe in/toe out changing.

Yes, it reduces bump-steer if done correctly, but it will have no effect on torque-steer.

i changed from mini hubs to k-series metro hubs to reduce scrub radius, required custom lower arms and new driveshafts, and re-drilling of the PCD of the drive flange and disk. meant i could keep my starmags as i like the look lol.

geoff on 16vminiclub carried out the swap to a mini style frame so applicable to most on here, but he fitted spacers instead of shaving the caliper carriers which defeats the purpouse a little
