I had to chase a woman down after doing a hit and run on my car today, situation would have been made easier if i had one of those in car cameras that are very popular in eastern europe and i believe new zealand

any experiance of them? i can only find a review of a £199 one and i dont really want to spent that much

If I am correct they record all the time while the ignition is on, record 1min prior and after the accident, seem to be hitting off in the states at the moment. Some have a record function to use as an incar camera for track days too.

-Rover 100 VVC #2 - track project

We got them in our work vans because of the slam your brake on scams that people do on the motorways.

Ive a cheapy camera, just runs off the ciggy lighter ( although Ive wired it in )

It simply records when the ignition is on, 32gb card holds 9 hours.
It is not an accident recorder though.

Blackvue or Roadhawk seem to be the main accident recorders.

I would buy the best quality camera you can, as even on my cheap one, whilst the images are good, quality is only good enough to catch a reg plate directly in front. For anything from the side or passing the opposite direction you've no chance.

Night time on mine is fairly poor. Some claim night vision etc, and mine does have it. But it's strictly short range, 2-3m at most. So any night work relies totally on headlights and street lights, so again, camera quality/resolution is vital. Buy the best you can afford.

The recorders as above will safely record any footage prior and after an impact. Mine simply records, and unless I manually save what is needed to the computer, it will get overwritten.

The recorders also link with GPS and accelerometers to show G-Forces and a map overlay of speed etc.

I can see why they are becoming popular, if your relying on any kind of honesty from the general public these days you've no chance.

I have it less for the honesty of the general public....more the lack of honesty of our law enforcement.
