I've just taken home to two cats who are bigger than anything from Yorkshire :)

Both taken in from a close relative's divorce, fight over custody etc.

Both grossly overweight according to our vet (18 months incarcerated in a flat) and now just getting used to the outdoors of rural Suffolk (no flat caps here...)...

Both are British Blues although it may not be obvious until we have them back to their proper weight.

How do you make a cat diet? In the case of my dog, it was just a case of diet and lots of exercise. Could see it being difficult to persuade a cat to get exercise.

With cats it's more a case of just letting them out - these poor two have been restricted to a one bedroom flat for the last 18 months (because of the divorce etc.) and then another 3 1/2 weeks in our local caterey because we pissed of to Austrialia for nearly a month just after getting them.... (we had to take them before we flew out or they would have ended up in a rescue home...)

Now, with access to a garden, they are starting to excercise themselves.

No sadly not, her time came last November when the tumour on her skull got too much for her. It was heartbreaking but the only kind thing to do.

In the picture is Stella, another rescue German Shepherd. We've had her about 4 months now, she's lovely.

"rescue" cats/dogs are the way for me now. Our latest are "rescued" from a broken marriage rather than a rescue home but it's pretty much the same. Last cat and dog were from rescue homes.

Somehow they seem to settle better once they are finally in the right environment.

The way I see it is that there are so many lovely dogs/cats out there in need of a home because they don't have one. I'd much rather give a needy animal a home.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

My dog was a rescue dog and has turned into a fantastic dog over the years. It's just a shame he's starting to wear out. We won't have another for a while when he's gone, but the next one will be from a rescue. I'm just not letting Lisa pick it. Her last attempt used to eat the plaster from the walls..

Our dog's 19 and a half and still going strong! Shes a good Aussie Kelpie, brought her over when we moved back here in '98 which unfortunately meant 6 months in quarantine and a long flight over but she was happy enough.
