OK, tell me if I'm being stupid;

I've just had the daily in for a health check before I head off on holiday; no huge issues other than 2 badly buckled wheels and 2 tyres getting close to limit (strangely the good tyres are on the bad wheels).

Anyhow, the wheels have seen a bit of action and one of the good ones has a persistent slow puncture due to corrosion. Obviously the attention turns to simply replacing the wheels with a new set.

The current wheels are 18's with 245/40s on. Now, I've come across a set of 19s that were an option on the car new (always preferred them since viewing another car before I bought this one). They have been fully refurb'ed and have good continental tyres already fitted.

My question is, given the state of the roads and already having 2 damaged wheels, is going for a larger, and therefore lower profile tyre, a disaster waiting to happen?

cheers

rob

Expect a crapper ride and bigger tyre/fuel bills.

I wish I had gone for the non-sporty 16" wheel version of my car now rather than the 18" wheels that come on the s-line/black edition.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Don't get me wrong I really like my car and enjoy it. Just sometimes I wish the ride was more pliant like the last A3 that I had with 16's on.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Our Dx3 has 19's with 40's.

We ran over a lolly pop stick the other day and I had to go to the chiropractor !

Betwix Harrogate and York

Give them a go. If you don't like them flog them.

I bet there won't be much difference in ride compared to the 18s.

I agree with will, the sensible side of me would say stick with the 18's but in all honesty its only an inch bigger (but makes all the difference) lol
