OK, I've now got hold of a new transporter trailer. Its generally in good order with the exception of the tyres which are a bit of a miss-match of radial and crossply.

I never really thought about trailer tyres until last night when I was doing a bit of research and it would look like it is still common place to fit crossply to trailers (I'm showing my age now but does anyone remember the old TV add about this with an Austin 1100 crashing? - mast have been back in the late 70's or early 80's).

The trailer, according to the original build sheet had 8ply 5.00 x 10 khumos fitted.

so first thing - should I stick with crossply tyres or go with a more 'modern' radial equivalent?

2) a quality tyre manufacturer?

3) good supplier?

ta muchly

Rob

I,d stick with crossply tyres of the same rating - stiffer sidewall, less shimmy.

I always reckon trailer tyres get old before they wear out so never pay for premium tyres.

The radial 145s are rated for vans and trailers depending on your load requirements.

Looks like i'm going for the crossplys. Got a quote from indespension for 4 new wheels and tyres for cheaper than i can get the tyres!

fitted van tyres to my(works) transporter trailer, made a massive difference to how it towed but just had regular car tyres on beforehand, was pretty hairy tail wagging the dog style lol.
