while I can't actually lift a finger to the car, I've been thinking of all the little details still to be sorted.

I need to get some number plates made up for the car. The guy that used to make them up for me had his stuff stolen.

Now, I'm not looking for some stupid font or size, I'm quite happy with the standard plate, however all the local suppliers now have their names about half the size of the actual digits although the post code is much smaller.

Does anyone know of a supplier who has a very subtle name size or even someone who could replicate a rover dealer type plate?

As much as I hate the place, I've had plates made at Halfords. Their name is just barely visable, at least on the white front plates.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Ebay "show" plates for me, come pretty sharpish, well priced, and no wanky print at the bottom.

Same as tom, eBay show plates are your best bet. I looked at this the other day, it's illegal to sell road plates without suppliers info, but it's not illegal to display them without this info as long as they conform to the usual stuff

I used partbuyer on ebay. Cheap and fast turnaround. Small name only.

The thing about the name is that it's not needed once you leave the shop.

the rules only apply to new plates; I could have quite easily had the plates made legitimately a few years back; indeed the plates I have for the car are blank and were perfectly legal to obtain at the time of purchase

Swansea boyo!

I got some pressed ones on ebay for £24 yesterday, no writting on them either *happy*. I wish my car was old enough for the older style plates, so much nicer.

They don't die, they just get faster!

hopefully Andy, but it is going to depend on how quickly my hand heals. only saving grace is that I'm off on holiday shortly for a couple of weeks which will allow a bit of healing time.

Yes, but the rules only apply to the seller. The requirements are not part of an MOT.

The idea was to make it more difficult to get false plates. But I suggest making plates is a shit load easier than actually nicking a car etc!!
