First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Ahoy Sailors!

Does any one have anything clever in the way of a garage or garage features?
I'm about to finally lose the garage at my dads house and so I need to build something at mine.

This isn't going to be a Grand Designs job, and the budget is extremely limited (I'm giving Greece a run for its money right now), however I need to build a new home for my car and if I am starting from scratch I'm hoping someone may be helpful and be able to give me some features to plagiarise.

I'm thinking a garage and a half width, with room for the mini, work bench, lathe, pillar drill, some shelves.

Thanks
Nic

are you bothered about appearance? not sure about down your way but we can usually pick up the old marley sectional garages FOC. I've know a couple of guys who have built workshop space using a couple of single garages to make a nice single and a half.

would certainly give you a good start, however in my experience, a good chunk of the cost can be in the ground

I have been trying to get my hands on prefabs to do this, but without much luck. I've been let down on a couple that have already been dismantled and I dont want to be messing around with asbestos roofs.

I may have found someone that can put up some blocks for me for a sensible price, I will also look at wood, but I dont think this will be the cheapest option.

block and render/sparing would be the most cost effective way I reccon.

I have a sectional garage. It's OK, but it's not particular dry in the more moist months. The top of my cylinder head, engine number place etc have all gone a bit rusty over the winter.

A bloke I know has a nice setup, large garage space then through a door at the back a smaller workshop with benches and cupboards in. Also something I think is a useful thing is to have a small sink so you can wash your hands in there, saves bring muck in the house.

I'm looking at knocking my garage through in the near future so any pictures and ideas would be great I have a toilet garage and utility room I want to knock into one big garage I may keep the sink though as you say Tom could come in handy :)

I'll take some of my garage, few cool bits in there. Very good lighting and storage. When I get my own placd I will be doing floor lighting using cheap led strips for working under the cars.

Warwick.

space around the car is always my thought.
I'd be aiming to allow 1 door fully open and enough space at the front of the car for an engine hoist which should also give enough leg room if your under the front laying down.

Both of which im unfortunatly not blessed with in my bomb site of a garage

David.

Defo go for pointy roof rather than Flatbroof. Mines boarded out so its possible to walk around uptairs and store parts etc

If you plan on being there for a long while, just build the biggest you can - you will never regret making it too big.

Whats wrong with wood ? Its a lot better at avoiding the condensation problems that Andy mentioned. Its also cheap if you dont buy new, but go looking for wood from demolition sites or even where they re doing a house extension or the like. Guess how I know this.

I plan to replace my garage when fund allow. Current concrete box is 5m x 5m. I reckon I can get 6m x 6.5m on the same plot. With a 3m roller shutter door on I can go lower into the ground (it's on a slope) and have a decent pitch roof. Space for 3 cars.

The current one will be offered for free on here if I ever get round to it.

I'd say the best thing about my garage was the lighting, add loads of lights, then when you think you have gone to far, add a few more. As tom mentioned the sink is very handy too.
Don't put a kettle in there though, as this way you never get tea brought to you.
