-Not too expensive (as in cheaper than a 1275 due to insurance etc, plus less power = less money on gearboxes)

-Enough power for most people on the road

-Unusual/ quirky (but still with enough info that you're not in the dark)

-You can laugh when your 1L car is quicker than other peoples cars

-Did I mention it's cheaper? If you are going for low power then the majority of the parts will stay standard and 998 engines are cheaper than 1275s

-But on the downside when you start questing for more power you will be limited by a 998, and the engine will be under more strain than a similarly powered 1275

For the love of god, talk me out of it haha! I feel my car is very reliable right now I just wish it had enough if I ever felt the need to put my foot down. You guys seem to have a lot of issues with your cars and as this is currently my only car please put me off enough to want to do it when I get my next one (:

once you go turbo you never go back
no reason why a turbo engine would be less reliable, if it is built correctly a 100bhp turbo engine will last longer than a 100bhp non turbo its the way the power is made and more importantly how its driven

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I've always said to Carl that when I got my second mini that I'd have a turbo in one of them. He's just trying to push me to do it because he's too lazy to get on with his own *tongue*.

I'm not too lazy! You say you want more power and keep the 998, so voila! Turbo time *tongue*

The only thing i'd do with your car is paint the wheels silver. So many cars are modified these days there were very few standard looking cars at The show which make them stand out even more.

I don't really like silver steel wheels but the brake dust is a nightmare on white haha. Tbh, I like standard looking cars so nothing would visually change.

do it, 998's are cheap to source too
just the body mods you have to worry about

get a spare one & build up with all the turbo bits
then only takes a few hours to swap over :)
keep your good one as a spare lifeline

I've always liked the idea of doing a turbo'ed 998, something simple that'l get really good fuel consumption and is gearbox friendly. When I was running in my 1275 (I know its not a 998) on a paltry 6 psi, it didn't feel turbo'ed but had nice torque and no lag, more like someone slipped in a 1600 engine when you weren't looking. A 998 like that would be great and would suit the car as well.

Mirage or custom manifolds with a T2 wouldn't even need any. Nor would it need an intercooler really on low boost. :)

I was going to ask what I'd need to chop up! My car needs another £1000 or so spent on it to be finished so maybe in the new year when I've finished it I might consider it.
Carl, Les told me this morning I don't want a turbo, wisdom has spoken *tongue*

Thats the best sister picture you can get with safe search on!
Atm I'm not sure it's worth doing because I very rarely drive the car because of having a work wagon but its usually under 40mph anyway if I'm just popping out, apart from the 125 miles to Carls once a month. The only time atm I feel it needs a bit more is on hills/rare occasions when I overtake. If it was my spare car I'd probs do it because I'd be more willing to push to see how quick I could get it.

Haha, we've been doing it for a year at the end of the month, young love aye! I can't complain, it's an awesome drive *tongue*.
Even if it was a work wagon, I only live a mile or so from work and there's about 3 speed cameras along a 30 road there. NOT THAT I SPEED.

Where would you guys suggest to put the extra gauges? I like my clutter free dash! It was hard to put the stereo/12v socket because they ruin the inside :(.

I have the same dash as you, I feel your pain. You really need a boost gauge and AFR gauge, I got a cheap twin 52mm gauge pod on ebay and mounted it in the roof. OK its not in your eye line but it doesn't clutter your dash.
