It was just on the track at the same time, it was nothing to do with the other driver.

Despite Dave's best efforts, the bini got away unscathed.

On showing the photos of the car to the wife she asked if it was a standard mini shell as it looked slightly different to mine. Not wishing to be condescending and state the obvious I 'educated her' that it was a sprint shell and was 2-3" shorter in the body and 3-4" shorter in the roof cutting down on the frontal area and therefore reducing drag. She said said it looked about 8"s shorter in length. I pointed out that was a modification that was not really intended.

Definitely the best Mini on TM, such a shame but I'm sure it'll be back better then ever. The damage pics of it from the rear do kinda make it look like a BINI though.

Well, after watching the video, coutesy of Turbo Tim and a friend of his - thanks, I have pieced together what happened. There is a delay between the engine revving high and the spin.

I was going for 3rd but the stick lifted over the reverse lockout - in fumbling for neutral it got reverse, since I dont use the clutch for changing gear it had drive still. This snapped the left hand driveshaft and put it into the clockwise spin.

To repair Ill buy a new boot hinge panel to get the correct shape for the rear panel then straighten out the rest of it after removing the rear valance and bootfloor, I made these both out of aluminium years ago so if theyre not salvageable Ill make new ones. Hopefully the bootlid and frame, which I also made both from aluminium will be salvageable.

Other than the panel damage Ill need new brightwork at the back, while Im at it Ill fit new floor pans as theyre still the original 1960 ones which are looking a little tatty.

So itll come back as a show stopper again better than when I first built it in 1999/2000. It may not be quite as quick because Ill be adding some weight with a roll cage and high back seat, Ill have to look into adding some more power to overcome this.

Ill update as I go along as some might find it interesting to see how this kind of repair is done properly without the need of 4 big tubs of filler.

Id like to add that on the day of the accident and since then I have have had many well wishing messages and Id like to say many thanks for them - they certainly kept me in high spirits in a time that could have really got me down

I seriously doubt it!

Well done Paul. It'll be great to see you doing what you do best.

So, the question on everyone's lips... More power... Turbo?
