I've been in both the 5 and the MG (though not personally driven the MG) and I prefer the 5. It's just nicer inside, feels better made.

As for mk1/2 its basically down to the looks because they're pretty much identical underneath.

Utter bollocks, they share the same base engine and engine location i.e. mid mount, after that there are precious little similarities. The Lotus has bespoke suspension, the MGF uses some old bastardized shite that started life in a Metro.

I agree Tom
not sure they make coilovers for them though & the engine position makes it a pig to work on

I'd also lean towards an mx5 as they are alot easier to work on engine wise, parts are cheaper and i know them inside and out having broken a few for bits

front engine rwd is the way forward for a fun daily/ summer toy
she's got an evo for the track and a mini

well the wife had a mk2 mx5 for just over 5 years; cost me nothing to run in that time other than consumables and never let us down. Wasn't the quickest thing on the planet (1.8iS) but we had a couple of good touring holidays in Europe with it.

It is probably one of the few cars we would try and replace; still see it buzzing about Glasgow from time to time, now sitting on its Gladys with carlos wheels fitted!

Coilovers for an mgf is a tf subframe conversion, same used for the metros for front coilovers, I have an mgf subframe in my metro! Personally I like the mk2 mx5 over the mk1 and the mgf is a heap of poo only good for being an engine and seat doner.

It just depends on if she likes driving on hot days or warping the cylinder head as it overheats in traffic

if that doesnt fix it, its an electrical fault

she's had an mgf before and the headgasket went
i've had a tf briefly and the handling was better
but my opinion is its got be an mx5 tbh

i for one cbf with the hassle that comes along with mg's anymore if its a keeper
i've always bought the hatch's for scrap money and run them till the headgasket goes
