anyone know if an aftermarket probably steel? one is made to fit small bores 1098cc
im looking for an alternative to the separate chunk of steel siting on top of a shaved down factory cap

i had a look today with the idea of fitting a girdle to the main caps but it became clear that is not an option due to space once i had an block and box sitting together with crank rods and pistons

at what RPM and or lb·ft would you be concerned that something needs to be done to strengthen the main cap or caps?

I'm not sure a 1098 crank will be up to the kind of rpm to justify a 4 bolt strap.

I would just centre strap it.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

IMO a centre main strap will be ok .... but if you have the time and dosh for go the full treatment

benross, at this point im a bit fed up with trying to find longer bolts for the additional strap thickness
im not happy with 10 odd mm of stud in the block and ive been told its a 3-4 week wait for arp studs
i cant find a 1" 3/4 steel main cap for small bores so i think ill just leave its STD
after all the cam runs out of legs at 6k and with the 83mm stroke i plan to keep it under 6.5k or what ever is max ft pounds
im looking to make loads of torque to pull the sccr box and 2.95 diff its a heavy std weight clubman
i was looking at strengthening the main cap/s to help with the load and reliability so on but i think if i treat it nice and have things set up right ill be ok?

ive lernt my lesson on being rough trashed the drive line cvs inner and outer trashed the main bearing (broke the cage) chewed the syrncrows up and the slider hubs the lot crank also cracked 3/4 the way around shop said your a lucky man this is not in two

Fast carl can get you some suitable bolts...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Get some nice Hardened washers too

Keith Calver cover it a while back, saying the bolts chew there way into the washers but use a hardened one it stops it doing that

thanks guys but im going to just go with factory caps and ARP studs/bolts/washers
perhaps i was being to paranoid (like normal) about flex/lack of strength in the crank/main line
i think it will be ok keeping to my 6.5krpm limit and having my rotating assembly lightened and balanced should be ok
