Mrs. W is after a new car and fancies the V50 estate, anyone had experience?

We're looking at 2008ish either 2.0 diesel or 2.4 D5 with manual box

Edited by paul wiginton on 27th Aug, 2013.

I seriously doubt it!

North of the Netherlands

I would choose the D5; I have driven a V70 D5 which made a quite sporty ride.
That same motor in a V50 which has a much better suspension should be really entertaining.
On top of that isn't the 2.0 a PSA engine? Brrrr!

Dazed and Confused....

we have a 58 reg v50 R design, had it 2 years now, we had it 3 days before the egr valve went, then 2 weeks later the ecu went total cost £2000, good job it was still warranty, last month it wouldn't start, AA came out and found main air flap running over the engine was sticking, I wouldn't buy one, 1 its a ford focus based, 2 its shit on fuel, and 3 its shit. don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU CANT POLISH A TURD, BUT, YOU CAN ROLL IT IN GLITTER!!!!

Will has one and is looking to sell it soon, but he has had a few issues with it. The main issues as far as I can tell is that all the dealers in his area are shite and don't want to honor the full warranty. Wil's is the D5.

Somewhere around Swindon

We had one for 3 years a 2.0d
Its a cracking car we would have another, common faults are the usual dmf and the ignition lock can sometimes stick apart from that they are really good, the 2.4 is a better engine than the ford 2.0 however the 2.0 has plenty of go, if i had another i would only go for a sport or r design for the trim wheels ect

I work for a ford/ Volvo main dealer the 2.4 d5s the better option more power plus its a Volvo engine not a peugeot/Citroen one but to be honest other than the usual diesel coking now and then we don't have to much trouble with them other than water damage to the gem module due to the washer pump plug but there was a recall for them so as long as that's been done you will be fine worth checking the to plugs though in the passenger footwell, I hope it helps

As Ben said I have a D5 R design. And it's the shittest car I have ever owned.

To be fair it's never actually stopped, just had annoying faults. And wanker dealers.

But the worst thing is that there is a fault light system that ONLY Volvo can read. so you can't even find out what's wrong with your car at home or in your local garage.

Mine is for sale though*smiley*
