as some of you may know, I've got an old BSA M20 (circa 1940) tucked away in the workshop needing a fair bit of work. I'm hoping to strike a blow on this over the winter months.

Now, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to bikes so need a resource where I don't need to weed out the genuine info and fact from the crap, a little like TM to be honest. Does anyone know of any good forums to look out for or alternatively bad ones to steer clear of?

cheers

Rob

Any questions feel free to post up and see if we can help
How much of a project is it?

get some pics up Rob!

Take lots of pictures on the strip down and label everything up, is pretty much the best advice i was given.

is a good place for spares

buy a manual from Ebay, get the paper version rather than CD and have a good read before the strip down.

Hi Rob, just got your PM, I had a look ages ago and to be honest I could not find a forum for bsa's that was anything like this. I have found a fair bit out through just searching on google which has picked out various bits from various forums. The other thing is mine is a 50/60's bike, yours is a 30/40's machine in broad tech terms and it seems some models develop more of a following than others. The general bsa owners club may be a place to start, I will be contacting them as they offer a service to provide reports for the dvla in order that you can get your original reg numbers back but not for a bit. It seems to me they are a more traditional club with newsletters and a phone number for each person in the club whom is an expert in that model.

Just been on the bsa owners club site and found this

http://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/tech_consultants.html

I really must join, only reason I haven't really bothered was:

I have the full bsa manual and another good shop manual.

I have been going to the bike autojumble near me at rufforth just about every month for that last 4 years which is great for picking info up,been a few times to the same at Newark too.

Its not really a sought after model so there is unlikely to be much of a support network anyhow, and lots of bsa's/triumphs around the era of my bike are made from the same bits. And after all its such a simple machine even a ham handed mongtard like me can do a passable job of rebuilding it.

Almost forgot before we had the mini forums our reference was of course the mini mags, so a classic bike mag may be a handy thing. I bought a few quids worth of old ones from said autojumble as the info is still all relevant.
