Below is a picture of a unit i purchased from a Renault breakers a few years ago (and still not fitted LOL)!
This was from a Renault 19 16v - i believe it was also fitted to the 16v Clio's. The Vauxhall omega 3.0 V6 also has a very similar unit fitted to passenger-side of the radiator. JF recently informed us of the Renault Savanna TD having the same/similar unit mounted on the bulkhead.

The pipe diameter is 19mm / 3/4". They flow water just like a turbo flows - ie inlet is the end, outlet is on the side. You need to make sure the impellor rotates clockwise when viewed from the intake (so sort your wires out accordingly).

What i'm not sure of is how folks have plumbed theirs up. Maybe someone can post pics or a schematic?

The units I listed above are not normally recognised for being suitable as the main water pump for car engines, but as a booster pump, so it's up to you should you decide to fit one instead of the main water pump. The unit sold by Corley's is used succesfully on many mini miglias however, so is well proven in race use - but the cost is a lot more than the few quid you'll pay for a used pump from a breakers.

This company have more experience with electric water pumps than any other. Check out their range of 'remote' pumps for another option. These are sure to have more than enough cooling potentail for any engine you can build, and with the £$ exchange rate, probably don't work out too excessive for what you're getting!

basicly to fit it,

Cut the bottom hose between the water pump and the rad, and fit it with the pipe qhich comes out of the end, pointing down, and the pipe coming from the side, pointing to the water pump. You need to take off the impellor blades from your old water pump or they get in the way of the flow.
These pumps are also great to be run after the engine has been switched off to allow cooling of the engine. I'll get some pics up tomorow.

I'm guessing some adaptors are needed aswell Jim - the bottom hose is 1" normally - these have 3/4" connections...

yes I simply put a short peice of heater hose over the connection pipes, and then but the larger 1" hose over the top of them.

An idea I had when i first started looking into these is to use a timer-relay like used on heated rear windows in modern cars, such that when you shut down, you press a simple push button that triggers one of these relays. You could have this connected to the rad fan and the pump, so that after 10 mins, it all shuts down. You could also do the same with a thermostatic switch aswell I suppose!

yep, I got a bananna pump for £45 too.

I was planning to enlarge the heater take off on the head to 3/4" run this into the pump which pushes water through the heater matrix, put 3/4" stubs on the heater matrix and then put a 3/4" stub on the header tank and run it back into there instead of the bottom hose,

the thinking here is to get more water cooling cyls 3&4 by getting more flow throgh the heater system and have the elec pump just for cooldown.
