You should know all that already if you really have the engine you claim to have.

Here is mine.

A+ rods totally standard (but checked)
A+ CAM6581 crank Totally standard (but checked).
ARP Big-end bolts
Centre-Strap, stock mains / bolts otherwise.
Pistons - suitable ones for the power and RPM i run.
Block - Full prepared and inspected. Don't need to add any more as that says everything needed IMO.

Makes as many bar-room bananas as is needed to impress as required, and lasts for years between rebuilds as it never gets used (it doesn't need to prove itself - i've already told prople what power it makes).

Cheers Dave, reason asking is I want to have a go building my own engine, so want to know what standard parts I can get away with.

How longs a piece of string?

I know the limits of my engine, hence the strict hard-cut rev limiter of 7Krpm.

If you want to build a 8000+ rpm unit with 25psi of boost, then it's clean sheet of paper time. I have the feeling, you want to be putting together something VERY special, rather than a unit for a 4psi turbo conversion...

I think in that case, the bolts holding the alternator bracket onto the front of the block are the only items you can leave standard...

If you really want to 'build' your own engine, read the yellow bible many times over. Buy books on blue-printing/building engines (there are many on amazon.com...). Also - read as many books on tuning engines, so you can understand the forces involved depending on the route you want to go...

Reading books on (for example) tuning honda Engines also give a different perspective - one that might open up ideas on what else to do to make yours that little-bit more special...
You also need to invest in many tools - files, die-grinder, linisher/polisher, scrapers, platigauge, DTI, feelers, etc, etc, etc.

Alternativly - send the block, crank, rods off to somewhere like OAP, Swifty, etc and have them 'machine and prepare' all the components - and you just assemble. By far the most expensive, but you can be sure it's right.

Standard Turbo {6581} crank untouched apart from a balance by Phil Hepworth {Racespec}, Carrillo forged rods {nuff said}, block prepared by Phil Hepworth {nuff said again}, modified with 4 bolt main cap. Cooper "S" damper.
Whether i need the fancy rods and main cap, who knows, but when they came up for sale at a "good price" i couldn't miss the opportunity.

I was looking at getting round about 180bhp from this engine, and as it'll be my first build, don't want to put too many 'trick' bits inside it incase it all falls to bits due to me being amiture. I already have a Vmax St5 head, 15cc omega pistons, roller rockers, 4 speed sc box, C-main strap, Duplex cam drive and Standard turbo+carb to use. What other parts will I need if I get another turbo engine as a base? I was thinking maybe some SC drops and a better diff, and sticking with the crank and rods?

Hopfully this will gain me enough experiance to re-build my other engine when it needs it.

Cheers.

So where is your trick engine, the one that TM was gaggig to hear how it did on the rollers that unfortunatley caught alight on a garage forecourt.

Trick engine, didn't make rollers due to water getting into the cylinders. That got fixed and went on the rollers, but oil pressure dropped to 45psi, so new pump was fitted, still low pressuere. So now the engine is being spripped to see whats goings on. Some people seem to think Im talking shit, guess I'll just have to see you all at Avon 06. Like to wipe the grin off a couple of faces...........no names!

45psi is not low oil pressure, it's what I have had for 4 years with my engine! which is currently the 2nd quickest a series mini turbo on this site. (maybe uk?)

Are you genuinely suprised that a few people on here don't believe your previous posts?
You turn up as an unknown to anyone, with an engine spec that is immense, including 6 speed boxes et al, and makes anyone with a turbo mini jealous! Then, when we are all eagerly awaiting rolling road results from this mega engine, it has problems, and you start buying second hand stuff off ebay?

I may well be wrong, but to me that does not fit in with someone who must have spent a small fortune on doing a proper engine, to buy second hand un-proven stuff off ebay?

I didn't build the engine, Mat on the minispeed rollers said he won't wind the boost up untill he sees at least 55psi..........

300, (what is your name by the way?)

I can see tom's point of view thinking about it, We're all after the same thing, and everyone is pretty open here (I've always had my engine spec on public domain for example, and revealled many, many tweaks and trick to make more bananas).
Join in the crowd - be honest - be open, and scores / bets / whatever will indeed be settled at Avon.
Winning however is nothing compared to everyone sat round the fire, having a beer and chattin sh1t about cars and whatever. That's Avon Park for me....
