These are NLA from minispares and minisport, but you can still buy new s/c 998 drop gears (primary). The top hat bush is the same as a 1275, so thats all good, but the front bush - engine side - is smaller and therefore different.

Anyone know of a source of the 998 front bush/small one? They must be available from somewhere?

Im tempted to chop the end of a bit of bronze bar i have in the shed to make one up, but the material spec is scaring me as it could be any one of a number of bronze/brass/something alloys?

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

As always, willing to share information. My m8, owner of 998 needing new primary gear bushes asked mr calver for help. This was the response, might be usefull to anyonein the future:

Hello Rob -

Hmm - this is becoming an issue I need to take up with MSC for future
product. You must be the fourth person in the last 10 days to ask this
question! I think MSC need to start doing a 998/small-bore version of
the fully floating bush I developed for the 1275/large bore primary
gear. At least it's easy for the DIY-er to fit!

These bushings are made from 'ENCON6' - a modern day, all-purpose
bush/bearing bronze like phosphur/navy bronze used to be. If you are
going to make one, then make it so there is 0.002" clearance between the
ID and crank and the same clearance between bush OD and ID of primary
gear journal. Make sure you make it short enough not to bind up inside
the gear and a decent, large chamfer on the ID of the end that butts up
against the crank so that it clears the radius there.

You could try MED (0116 246 1641) as I know they have made bushings for
the small-bore gears on occasions.

Cheers, Keith
