what are the most narrow arches available, i could do with some due to being pulled by the cops & had to produce, i have an 86 mini on s disks & standard drums with the built in spacer, & the wheels stick out a little, i'm running genuine cooper reverse rims wth 165/70/10 tyres, i like the ones on the blue car on the cover of this minimag, i want the moost narrow type as the wheels dont stick out very far at all

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

TBH I think the narrowest arches are the standard Rover ones.

They can look alright if they're colour coded, but if your gonna get some then it might be worth getting something maybe a bit wider but different from standard? All depends on what sort of look your going for?

Standard rover and group 2's are both 1.75".

i think the group 2's might actually be slightly wider because of the lip though

Group 2's are the ones you want ... well I would have them anyday over the plastic things!!

Buy good ones as some of the cheap ones are a rubbish fit!!

The ones Min-Its sell are a perfect fit on a straight car and not too expensive either!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

i like the fibreglass arches that huddersfield mini spares sell i think i got the group 2s they fit well and if you get the black strip of them you can run it over the arch lip and run it down the sill seam and over the rear arch lip in one looks good in my opinion. sorry no pics tho. there cheap andd if your not so fussy can fit them without painting.

also i like the wood and pickett arhes to.

its all up to personal choice mate, only you can decide!!

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Hi,
The only thing is most arches don't look right on a clubman as they finish in the middle of nowhere on the front wing....

Dont want to steal the thread but, has anyone bought, any Works wide arches or similar (group 5 I think) that they can recommend are good quality! Bought mine from *cough*speed and they did not fit one bit.

Id recommend somerford for grp 5's, but unsure if the still sell them. They used to be fantastic when they did...

Clubminiflip, will post up some pics this weekend, they are basically just pressed alloy.

Min-Its and Sommerford use the same GRP supplier IIRC and one is definately closer to Mr 'Flip ......

Both about the same distance for me ... but always choose Min-Its for parts and Sommerford for panels (as each has the best shock of quality parts in that area).

Reverse rims were an optional extra on the cooper S and didnt have arches fitted as standard. The police may not like it and it may not comply with current regulations but its not illegal.

ive got the same wheels and discs and not had a problem. but then i dont drive mine that much so have been lucky.

a producer isnt a problem it's the rectification order thats a problem.

TBH cops dont have a clue about old cars and if you stand your ground, claim its standard and say you'll see them in court, they will back down or issue a producer (big deal)

Note
dont blame me if you end up with points

if you get arches, i would get wood and picket or group 2. the only problems ive had is the rear arches get stone chipped and the tyres rub on the fronts. thats why i dont have stick on arches

vegard those grp2;s in on the 1st clubby are what i want as they are close in shape the the standard mini special arches, those are exacly what i'm after in the 1st pic

turbo shed, i agree i did stand my ground over it & i had to get a form stamped by my MOT guy to say i'd fitted arches,

its typical the police have a gripe about 3/4 of an inch (mostly tyre) of my rims potruding the body frame haha! & the tyres on his volvo turbo motorway car were as my dad puts it 'as bald as a badger' No i've neva seen a bald badger but maybe my dad means other stuff oh ello matron! *tongue*

either way his bald tyres should be more concern than my big treaded legal type :)

anyhow rant over, if i cant get those group 2's the same as those on the clubby in the 1st pic in vegards post i think i'll have those ally ones as backup joeybaby!

of to min-its for a look i think

don't forget to go for the silver seam trim fron to rear ..... gives a great retro look that would suit your car

That's my car.
Those are Huddersfield gp2 arches as I found the Minispares ones to be rubbish literally. They need a bit of work on the front edge as the regular ugly Mini is a bit more curved obviously. Takes 10 minutes with a file.

I'm in the 7th year of running reverse rims and S discs with no arches and I haven't had a problem. It has passed MOT 5 times as is, last time the guy twigged on the wheels so I threw on a spare set of skinnys for the resit and the other fella at the MOT asked why I didn't have wider wheels as he would have passed them OK like that. MOT next week so we'll see what they say this time, they are technically illegal but it's a close call.

Definately go for the group 2s, or maybe W&P.

s discs and reverse rims cannot be illegal and they were supplied by the factory

I was sure that reverse rims were all aftermarket wheels designed to dress up a boggo model as a cooper s. ie give the same width with drums as 's' discs and genuine 's' wheels.

Either way, any visible tread is illegal, your mot tester shouldn't pick it up because it isn't in mot regs but a copper can.

For group 2's i'd recommend somerford, they fit perfectly and were supplied really well finished.
