just a quickie, got a few shagged threads in the side of my gearbox for the transfer case fixings.

I think M10 will be way too big and will possibly split the casing, then you really are buggered.

Local engineering supplies should sell helicoil kits. If not Minisport seem to do the perfect range.

i think you can get helicoils (or recoils) from namrick for ok money "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

As that casing is dowelled for alignment you might get away with helicoiling the holes down one size and using smaller bolts. The next size down coils will probably screw straight into what remaining thread you have then you only need buy the inserts rather than a full kit. Pluss you won't need to enlarge the holes in what is a narrow wall of casting.

If there is enough thread to put an insert in safely then there would in theory be enough thread for a bolt....therefore defeating the object of having to do a thread repair!

well i'm off up to morspeed tomorrow to get some new exhaust guides so i'll take my gearbox case with me and see if simons got some helicoils in stock.

My old box was full of helicoils, did the trick, not used them in a while tho!

well the engines out now, looks like the half moon seal is ok so no need to take off the transfer case to split the engine/box. I'll sort em out next time its apart :)
