Hi,
10psi is possible on standard box and drops if built well / carefully. Haven't tried it yet to see how long it lasts, but it will obviously depend on how you drive it. 4 pin diff essential though!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

As Gavin stated. Only thing I can add is that heavy standing start sprints will not do it any favours.

I am building a car currently that will be running around 10psi and using a standard box and drops, carefully built with a 4 pin diff.

Much above 10psi and the resultant torque will put the standard box past it's useful limit.

If it's a decent engine build and you run 15psi through it I'd advise doing the test run up hill .... will make it much easier to push the car home *wink*

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

BIR1 was fitted with a helical box and SC drops for as long ias Mark owned it. Seemed to cope OK, although it was worn when I rebuilt it with an SC kit. If you build it right, and tear it down to reset clearances every once in a while, I think you'll do fine.

Turbo Hogster is ya man for boxes, he built mine for me (and has built for many others inc mini williams) Great bloke, really helpfull, he built me a full sc box and drops trans x diff, c oil pick up, and replaced all bearings, cost me under £900 for parts plus his labour on top,

Forgotten more than most ever know

52000 kms with pre A+ box and std drop gears, 4-pin diff and 2,95 gears. Still in pristine condition. No hard launches but lots of right foot on the road. Boost first at 10 psi, currently at 15 psi.

Hi,

I bought an Avonbar 4 pin diff and although I've not road tested it yet the build quality seems excellent.

Regarding "final drive ratio", this refers to the gear ratio in the differential. If the final drive ratio is 4.10, then the ring gear has 4.10 times as many teeth as the input pinion gear.

At 8 psi the standard diff wont last long in my experience. Thats the Minisport 4 pin diff for sure which I've heard is OK. I'm a mediocre DIY mech and fitted it mine with the help of my Haynes manual. You could also try this DIFFERENTIAL PIN AND BUSHED PLANET WHEEL DIFF KIT as a slightly cheaper alternative http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=35923

To be honest i wouldnt bother Mini_UK save some money and just get a cross pin, the yearn for more power will come and then you will have to buy one anyway :)
