I reckon you should get either the focus tdci estate (not sure what they go for now) or the skoda octy estate. If you get one with a pd engine you'll be laughing. Great cars for the money.

As others say the Vauxhalls are now getting WELL known for injector pump problems, £1000 plus labour and the immob recoding to put it right, have a look on ebay there are always a few Astra/Vectra/Zafiras on there non runners for this problem.

dont get a 307, they have loads of niggly electrical faults and wear brakes out fast and also suspension bushes. can highly recommend 306 1.9td though

Got a pug 406 1.9 turbodiesel at home and it tows very well, It has 90bhp but a lot of torque, 180 1bft. 100,000 miles and no problems for 60k of them only a few electrical niggles when we got the car.

I'd agree with Tom, go for a VAG group car. I've been running them for years and the only fault I've had is a knackered water pump in a golf last year. Now running an A4 2.5TDi avant - not getting to the dizzy heights of 34mpg though!

Rob, out of interest what do you manage from yours then, mine will do 40mpg if driven gently on a long run m/way, 34mpg trailer, or 29-30mpg round town, its the 150bhp A4 TDi Quattro.

Well interesting to know, I couldn't really decide if mine was a bit more thirsty than it ought to be, sounds like its about right though.
