Well, I have just downloaded minisports new catalogue out of curiocity.

3 things caught my attention,

1) they now state that Phil Shorts 7 port is now putting out 169 brake, I expect this is an inflated figure but does make me think it must be putting out quite a bit in real world figures.

2) they are now selling alloy front hubs they won't be as good as the KAD ones that are in the pipeline, but could be ok (damn pricy though!)

3) they are bringing out alloy drive flanges, erm..... I have had a fair bit of trouble with flanges in the past, and can't see alloy ones being that durable.

I know many people have a poor opinion of minisport, but that aside what is the concensus on alloy flanges Irispective of manufacturer?

I would love it if someone (other than monisport) did some alloy drive flanges. They weigh a tonne in steel.

Back on topic, sorry to be boring. What problems have you had with flanges. I have never had to replace one yet. The only problem I can think of is wear on the bearing end and that then causing bearing problems.

Do you think that alloy ones could be worse?

Or are all your flange problems to do the fairer sex?

Hi,
I've never had to change one on a Mini. The bearings run on the CV, so that shouldn't be a problem unless you spin the bearing. Splines shouln't wear either unless it's loose on the shaft.
All flange problems have been down to the fairer sex!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

LOL should have known better than to mention flange.

In the past I've had the CV nut loosen off quite a few times , In a very short time this can render the Flange scrap, While this isn't too much of a problem with steel flanges as they don't cost the earth even for the EN24 ones I can imagine the Alloy ones being a lot more delicate.

So not a flange problem then. I am supprised that the CV comes lose though. Torqued up and witht the split pin in it must be difficult.

Hi,
The racers seem to have a fair few problems with the CV nuts working loose for some reason.

Not as such no, Symtom rather than cause...

Also the problem was mostly on metros, Maybe something to do with the extra weight.

1573wx - I saw those, they look really good. I've just changed my timing set to a lightened duplex though.

Does anyone think that belt drive would be ok for everyday use? I've heard that the belts wear quickly because of the tight angle that it turns on the crank end.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

wonder if anyone will go the extra mile and add replaceable ball joints to their alloy hub's design, thats something id like to see.

also, do you have a link to this catalogue, ive just downloaded the one on their site and theres no mention of alloy hubs...

Replacable Ball joints?

The alloy ones I have seen use the pre 84 metro joint.

Here's a link, catalogues about 22 Meg.
