Saw this at Normanby Hall on Sunday - never heard of a Coldwell Twin Cam before. The owner wasn't very forthcoming with info other than it's the only one and he's been restoring it for some time.
(apologies for forgetting to rotate some of the pics)

Hi,
Yep same system, though the pump in the back of the Triumphs never looked like that!

Lots of spark plugs. Does this mean that it's 8V?

Looks like a v8, two 4 point dizzys on there!

That looks pretty cool, shame it sticks right out of the bonnet though, would look nicer with the bonnet on.

Two things say not a V8

1) If all the plugs are on one side what is igniting the second bank? I think they were aiming at an ALFA esq twin spark setup.

2) It looks like it's build on an A series block ... last time I checked one it only had 4 cylinders .. lol

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Hmm I dont know, it looks very V8 to me, there are two heads?

I see what you mean about the ignition banks though, very confusing!

i think its a twincam head on a mini block & box! its still got the majic wand gearleaver too!

it does look like a v8 in a way frm certain angles because it has some sort of steel or alloy plate on the waterpump side of the engine, if you look clutch side it has the standard mini stabiliser barin the normal position & mini clutch setup etc etc

it does look like a v8 in ways, cause of the way the intake is between the camcovers, anyone know the info on this conversion, i'm presuming it was a 60's conversion!

why so many plugs? 2 coils & dizzys?

I mean 8V though, not V8. We all can see it's a Mini block. The reason why I think it's a 8V is because there is seldom room for two plugs in a 16V.

V8?? Open yer fekkin eyes people!

My brother spoke to him and found out the car weighs about 400kg, and the engine produces about 115bhp, but has very little torque. Apparently he changed the path of the exhausts when repairing the manifold, and this increased the overall length of the exhaust and now it runs better.

He said it's ready for paint now and he's considering running it at a trackday at Cadwell sometime in the future.

I would be suprised if this is true personally, some wishful thinking on the part of the owner I'd say, doesn't look especially lightweight to me.

Looks like it will be a fabulous restoration of a piece of late 60's engineering.
OK, so it won't be as powerful as a BMW head conversion but just think on, that this is a small company putting it's money where it's mouth is many years ago, would it happen today???. Others that spring to mind are Howley and Arden. It just shows how important the mini used to be as a top flight competition car.
I can't remember if this was as popular as the Arden conversion or if it was as succesful but I wish the guy who is doing the restoration all the best as it will be a unique piece of Mini history.
To my mind it looks the best thought out conversion of the period and good enough to be sold in today's market.
I am pleased it was concieved and created in Yorkshire and I hope some stinking rich Jap pays the guy that's doing it an absolute fortunewhen he is ready to sell.

Dave

Oh ye!!, so your an expert on lightweight now are we,lol.

i for one can spot a very clever lightweight item ,
the OS quater panel has a big hole in it, presumably he did it when trying to balance out his corner weights,
