Turbo oil feed question(s)

Am I correct in thinking the part on the left is an oil feed for the turbo?

It was in the oil feed hole on the turbo manifold, seems a little tight reaching the large oil feed on front left of the block though. It looks as though it might route underneath the top engine steady.

Hate to ask obvious questions. I've had a good search through the forum but couldn't find anything recent on where to source these bits

Is there a cheaper solution to the £55 Avonbar Aeroquip feed? Also need oil return and flange to go to the back on the block, can't see anything listed on avonbar though?

Yes it's the oil feed. It should reach the oil pressure takeoff with ease if routed correctly.

Try www.minipart.co.uk they do a selection of braided hoses.

hmmm, i ordered a turbo oil supply from minipart.co.uk, the kit came missing bits, and the threads for the block and turbo banjos were wrong. Ended up having to buy the missing/incorrect bits from avonbar.

He said he would recompense me, but actions speak louder than words.....

I hope hes sorted himself out now, but to be safe Id quiz him on EXACTLY what he is going to supply (make sure he specifies which threads hes supplying for block, tee piece, and most importantly the turbo)

My honest advice is buy the proper stuff from avonbar...

Yep definitely sounds a little worrying considering I'm not 100% sure what I need. Just found this thread

which is handy for the block. I would need a T-piece going from the 5/8UNF with whatever thread he uses for hose and female for the oil pressure sensor, not sure about the thread on that and the turbo though?

£55 for a single hose and fittings seems insane. What about the oil return am I looking at £100?

Oil return is about £15 ish from Avonbar. (thats only the silicon hose) you'll also need the fiting on the block!

What do people typically do for the flange on the block?

most use the std metro turbo item i guess, but making one from a fuel pump blanking plate should prove easy enough, its only a pipe sticking out of a plate

Ahh so really I just need to get a T-piece fabbed up for the block and same for the feed on the turbo and blanking plate for the return.

Where can I get hold of a blanking plate is it a standard part?

it may not be the cheapest place but you get the right stuff. otherwise spend your money on the cheap stuff, find it dont fit or is crap and then buy the stuff from Avonbar.

The little brass t-piece on the turbo near actuator. One feed to the actuator and one to say a boost gauge?

Sorry for the obvious questions just trying to get my head round the operation of the turbo. Ive got about ten threads open haynes manual on my lap and pencil and notepad in my other hand lol don't wanna fudge it up.

I plumbed mine in like that and found that the more air I bleed off the less boost it showed on the gauge (but I was actually running more boost)

One side goes to actuator the other side either block it off or run it to a bleed valve.

yeah, you'll only see boost no vac if it's before the throttle butterfly. Like matt says, use one outlet for actuator and the other for bleed valve.

Whilst on the subject of oil feeds what size do we reckon is needed for a turbo? would -3 be big enough bore?

I ask because I would have assumed it would need to be a bit bigger (-4 to-5) but I have a gt25 with a TINY oil feed hole, like 3mm diameter.

answered my own Q, have some -4 stuff on order.

I had Hose solutions make a feed hose up, as i'm using a IHI RHB5 turbo, i found them on ebay

they were really helpfull, kept emailing asking me what spec i wanted,thread sizes, length etc....
I had a t peice for gauge in there too.

only came to £35 plus postage in the end, that for a custom hose aswell.

Although i made an error, when i tried it the dizzy got in the way LOL, so i had to get a 90° adapter from
