short story:... blew head gasket on the way, fixed at the show blew it again on the way home :) got deffened by the jet car and i am planning to steal the blue zcars thing....wow omg :)

well every thing was going as expected at first nice smooth down motor way sticking to 70 only putting the foot down (4psi) to see what it would do speed wise...red line in 4th (3.2 final 1:1 drops) every thing still ok, slowed down to 70 again (just a bit of back ground lol) another 50 miles passed started to slow on its own gave it bit morte gas the boost came on realy strong took me back up to 70 than pop ..pop.. pop i think shite!!started to just flame out the exhaust no go in it at all so i pulled up looked under the hood and it was ideling crap, spitting in to the carb and breathing REALY HEAVY like pressure washer with no water lol, was taken to the pod at 56mph :( thank you to mr rac,
did head gasket in the muddy feild (that i got stook in trying to park) took 2 hours :) i am impressed, got it all bolted down (could not get torque wrench any where) did it up till it wouldnt go any more all, back togeather fired her up (first time) purred like a kitten and reved like a tiger lol set of home got to wellingborough? i think, bang.... oil every where :) got just far enough to call rac again :) guy comes out, trys to fix looking for the leak in the breather on the rocker cover (red thing) said all done sent me on my way lol got out the services and caput :( oil all over again 2 more rac 's come out take me home on the back of truck. wups

like 80 strong croud of germans at the second blown gasket couldnt get near the car for good 20 mins lol until a sierra cossy pulled up and opend the hood while filling with fuel (think he was showing off lol chrome blindded me) the cossy guy looked at the mini but didnt come over dont think he was impressed the croud came back to look at my mini again *happy*

any way the good side saw most of you run the strip

hello the turbomini'er i got to meet cant remember the name monkey rings abell i think lol

and sorry to the guy who's bini's gear set accellerated faster than his car

Well unlucky that. You shouldve torqued it down really though. Probably why it blew going home.

At least you get there, i was aching in pain after going go karting. Got bruises to prove it. LOL

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

you need to be checking the head,

torque the head gasket to 55ft pounds

i strongley suspect the torque wrench is incorrect reading at a much lower figure
than you think

please check this out with borrowing a mates and compare the two crack off pressures

looking at the way the gasket has gone i would say simply not torqued down enough, i have just bought a new one from halfords £50 lol bit more expensive compared to the £8 one i used first. but you get what you pay for in the end..

i did however save more £££ in fuel that my breakdown cover cost lol so it was worth it, only bought the breakdown cover on the saturday aswell dont pay for it for another week and a half :))

If the head has been off and on twice I would consider at the very least having the head surface checked for being flat, and possibly it may need a flash skimming off.

Check your torque wrench!

I went through 2 before I checked mine and it was only giving half the required torque!

If this fails then take Toms advice and make sure the surfaces are good before putting it back together with a Payern bk450.

i would use the better AF470 head gasket but if you cant get one the BK450 is very similar

i hope the picture works
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/index.php?p=20&id=396

these things never work for me:(

if you get to see the picture there is an "o"ring as well as the copper ring in the AF470

Even with a now known good torque wrench I would still have head checked for being flat, especially if it got hot at all.

Hi,
At the risk of sounding stupid, what's the difference between the AF and the BK?
In that picture they look the same....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

take a closer look at the bottom left of each photo. circled is the bit that is different. the BK450 has a copper ring and the AF470 has the same but also an O ring.

i normaly go for the AF470 but if not available i use the BK450

Eek, you could have easily got a BK450 or an AF470 for that, but I suppose it depends what shops you can get to.

I'm with Tom on this, however you don't need to go to a machine shop to get it checked, you can do the job yourself with a sheet of glass and some engineers blue, also check the block whilst you're at it, I knew one poor bloke who got through half a dozen head gaskets before he discovered a small carbon deposit between between cylinders two & three which was preventing the gasket from seating properly.
