Hi all me again with another question.

Wanting to fit an anti roll bar on the mini but unsure on wot when why where ?

Kad do one but it fits to the back of the subframe and as i havent got one i could make brackets to fit it. Just wanderd how much stress is involved as the tubes arnt very big at the back.

It would be better to fit it where the radius arm bolts but dont no wether they go above ,below or if the exhausts in the way ?

Am i best getting one made like the miglias as they seam to run all kind of different set ups.
Hope some of that makes sence. Any help much apreciated as usuall. Thanks Rick

I think it will be a case of addapting one that someone already makes or fabruacating one from scratch.

Jims runs inside the boot and could be mounted above your fuel tank possibly.

The other ption is to mount it to the rear on the two bars running down to the rear member. Again, you would need to make mounts and drop links, but a 'standard' one off the shelf could be used as a start.

Rick, your car looks more interesting with every photo .... going to be be stunning.

I'd mount the bar above the "heal tube" and then run the arms out to coil over attachments.

Go on, make something ..... not like your scared of fabrication!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Rick, remember to make your mouning adjustable as you won't be able to work out what thickness bar you'll need to start with until you know the final spring rates and corner weights. Once you've got that info we can do a few calcs and work out where to start for you.

not sure what you mean mate, does this help?

the tube between the shock mount is sitting in bearings so it can turn freely, the drop links drop throuhg the floor and connect to the radius arms, just behind the shock mount.

Can someone explain in simple terms just what is the advantage in fitting a rear A/R bar?

Induces over steer. Rear bars usualy work with front bars as the front bar induces under steer. The overall benefit is a car that has a better attitude in corners, thereby the wheels contact patch is in a better position giving better grip.

Did I get any of that right?

I know many people who have tried front anti roll bars on mini's but have ended up removing them. I don't think many of the miglias run them any more.

Don't know if you got it right Sprocket. That is why I asked.
Just want to know about rear bars at the moment, are they fitted to follow fashion or do they work?

Dave

The suspension system is exactly that, a combined system. Dampers, springs and ARBs all combine to give you the over all handling.

The main benefit from running ARBs are;

can fine tune the chassis roll at each end of the car individually and independantly of the normal spring rates.

allows softer springs to be used and roll stiffness to be increased by the ARBs ... really useful on rougher surfaces

helps control attitude of the car in corners, especially stabalising the the car on switchbacks (fast direction changes) meaning the dampers can be set up close to ideal for the spring rates as the ARBs effectively increase the instantaneous spring rate on the loaded wheel without adversly affecting the damping (as piston speeds remain the same ... angling the shocks can have similar effects but at the cost of changes in piston speeds)

I'm off out (too the pub) or else I'd go into it in depth ..... will try to post tomorrow, ain't going to be making much sense when I get home .... hopefully!!

It is completely but it's not an off the shelf bar and not something that you could throw on a daily driver. You can get the one I want from the US; about $200 but another $200 postage!
Mmmm...

Tell me why it's worth that money, What does it do.
Not being a shit, but, I just would like to know what they achieve, or are they just another way to spend your cash?

Pretty much what has been said already, adding rear bar is a way of adjusting the attitude of a car in the corner by inducing oversteer or knocking off some understeer. Imagine being able to do that without touching the other suspention settings on the car.
