we tested my drop gears and clutch noise as all the jap boys were laughing............. 114 db

He he.
typical,
does that mean it wouldn't qualify for sound restrictions?

130db is the max for a car alarm so youre doing pretty well:)

Hi,
Isn't that close to the noise made by a jumbo jet taking off? *surprised*
Cheers,

If I remember correctly, the db scale is a logarithmic scale and each 3db increse is double the sound level.
Your drops are NOISEY !!!

i remember a few years ago at bristol mini day there was a noise tester there so i got my exhaust done but the bloke couldn't get a proper reading cos the dump valve was louder than the exhaust, lol.

your right Danboy, as the scale goes up the nosie gets much louded with only a few points gained on the scale.

not sure about a Jumbo at, but it was quite loud.
now theres a test to do bud, it would be funny to see how loud the old dump vlaves are.

anything over 100db damages your ears. used to work in a club, regularly around 102db and im partially deaf now - might be worth taking noise readings inside the cabin also

Hi,
Don't they record the sound level from a mic hanging over the track?
I'm sure I read that some where?
I've been told the MSA are increasing the allowable level next year.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

stefaz , I see what your saying, I did some work in a firends club not so long ago and found it very loud, I cut some ear plugs down in the end and found it helpful..............I then realised that one must be getting old! lol.

like a few on here I also were so ear protectors in the car just incase, you don't feel so drained after a long ride with them on i find.

I also wear cans in my 205 when on a longer journey, as you say Matt you get a few funny looks but it really does cut down on the fatigue. Are the ones you have Peltor Optime 3's, these have the greatest noise attenuation rating, there are also some that look the same but are Optime 2's, they are good but not as good as the 3's.

I would advise anyone who thinks there mini is loud to try some ear protection on a long journey then take them out near the end. Its amazing how much noise we are allowing our lugs to take in! I use ear plugs on long journeys and are not sure on the laws but many motorcyclists (like myself) use them all the time mostly due to wind noise.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

yup, another vote for the peltor 3's. got a few pairs (via work *wink*) and they are the bollocks.

they let me stand next to running jet engines so they do for me!

If you notice all the ground crew at the airports use the peltor 3's, they're always black with a red strip, the other grades have a different colour, yellow and blue i think.

Those roll up sponge ones also help for something like a mini. a tip is to roll them up, then wet them and push them in, you'll find that they work twice as well if you get them fully in. hold them in place for 10 seconds as well before you let go to let them expand.
