If I remember correctly, the db scale is a logarithmic scale and each 3db increse is double the sound level.

i remember a few years ago at bristol mini day there was a noise tester there so i got my exhaust done but the bloke couldn't get a proper reading cos the dump valve was louder than the exhaust, lol. On 20th Oct, 2015 Tom Fenton said:

anything over 100db damages your ears. used to work in a club, regularly around 102db and im partially deaf now - might be worth taking noise readings inside the cabin also On 23rd Oct, 2009 sim_ou_nao said:

I also wear cans in my 205 when on a longer journey, as you say Matt you get a few funny looks but it really does cut down on the fatigue. Are the ones you have Peltor Optime 3's, these have the greatest noise attenuation rating, there are also some that look the same but are Optime 2's, they are good but not as good as the 3's.

I would advise anyone who thinks there mini is loud to try some ear protection on a long journey then take them out near the end. Its amazing how much noise we are allowing our lugs to take in! I use ear plugs on long journeys and are not sure on the laws but many motorcyclists (like myself) use them all the time mostly due to wind noise. -MINI CLUBMAN 1380 TURBO- |
