Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

The missus has goosed her GHD straighteners so i said i would have a look.

Managed to figure out the problem is with a thermal fuse under the plate. Its not possible to get a spare apparently so i'm going to make one up to match. the fuse is no problem, the normal GHD one however goes in a ceramic pot.

I'm on the scrounge for some Capton tape and high temp potting compound. Does anyone use any at work they could spare?

The fuse is £0.69 from maplins rated at 228 centrigrade as apparently they run about 190 degrees C.

Much cheaper than a new pair!!!

Was going to link the fuse out but didnt want to risk her leaving them on or something daft.

Hopefully this might help someone else out of a fix, its fairly straight forward to pull them apart.

cheers
Iain

The question you have to ask is, if the GHD got hot enough to blow the thermal fuse, the heating element is goosed, so fitting a new thermal fuse will not rectify the fault but rather the symptom?

Normaly when these fuses blow, its due to the heating elemnet short circuiting, this draws more current, the element over heats and its a combination of the higher current and the excess heat that blows the fuse.

Is it really worth the pain once you have fixed it, for it to fail again within a couple of weeks. You know what women are like!

Its christmas, buy her a new one, maybe not an all blingin one like the GHD, but something that would do the job. spend the difference on the Mini *tongue*

PMSL *laughing*

Iain for the good of your sanity im willing to donate some thermal compound and tape..lol

I guess the tape your after is the fibre type (heat proof). The tape we use at work is £100 a role, not the kind of stuff you want to be buying for a one off job *surprised*
