UNIPART OIL FILTER..GFE 1
or know as the premium oil filter later on
i bought the last one from minispares north

unipart does not make them any more *frown*
this filter is "unique" as it has a 2 pence size magnetic trap installed and it filter the lot out

Anyone know where there is a nest of them ???
or may be we can togeather and ask unipart to re issue them ????

i have cut the filter open many years ago and they certainly do there job in the A series ...loads of ferrous silt which would have passed straight through the filter medium

anyone ?

Hi,
They were standard on MPis. Didn't realise they'd stop making them :(
I wonder if Fram or someone do an equivalent?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I know they stopped making them around 18 months ago... I bought the last four from my supplier, and have one left.

I'm thinking we need to source a decent OEM filter from another supplier. Call me what you want, but i don't trust 'bling' aftermarket oil filters like Fram. You can't go wrong with a OEM part from a major manufacturer. Only problem is most modern filters have a by-pass built in. I'm still looking for one that doesn't.

You could rip the magnets out of a few old hard disks ( do you really need A 500 mb UNIT) or a few busted audio tweeters ( neodym type) and add them to any type of filter.

o if you want something store bought:

Silly as it sounds...will any magnet stuck to the oil filter do the job?

you need a powerfull magnet hence i mentioned the neodym type..there suckers have ACME (think roadrunner.. meep meep) like qualities. bigger ones are downright hazardous.

a small one can pull as much a 6 kg.. if you take a few like the filtermag that will work.

just using a bit of araldite to paste a few smaller ones on a filter is a lot cheaper

TBH most of the filters are made in exactly the same factory, by the exactly the same machines and materials. Im sure its just a case of your paying for the name! *wink*

Fram might have been factory fit for cosworth, but that just means that that paerticular filter met cosworths needs. Way i see it, if you can buy a basic, premium, and premium plus filter from the same manufacturer, something is wrong. They should all be made to the same high standard as regards filtration capability.
