Just curious....

I'm reviewing options for a potential Tdi engine swap on a 1984 *wink* 110 I've just purchased,,,,

If you don't know what a 110 is, don't bother answering LOL!

I agree if you want diesel. Good old Transit 2.5 DI lump. Bomb proof reliability.
Even if a cam belt goes..it generally only knackers the rockers.

a 110 means it is 110 inchs long mate

ive had a disco 7 seater and modded it into a 2 seater pick-up

also go for a tdi 200 engine, there more powerful then the transit engine and alot quicker.

No tranny engine thanks!

This would be a nice, simple 2.3diesel to 2.5Tdi conversion using a discovery 200 Tdi engine...

Who asked about the wheelbase LOL? I just meant that the Carl Austins and Vegards need not provide input, unless it's REALLY funny....

Hi,
I only mess with V8s but I've heard it's fairly straight forward with a complete engine and box :)

My disco is a 200TDI. Slowest thing on the earth I think. :) My mum has a 300TDI, and it is MUCH better to drive, more torque all over the rev range, and a much wider 'power' band too.

you need to use the defender manifolds when fitting a 200tdi disco engine into a defender as the disco ones hit the inner wing, thats why they there is a big differnence in price, or you can chop out the offending parts of the wing and fab up a new down pipe and stick with the disco bits. not 100% weather that applies to the 300tdi's as well

oh and 5 mins with the diesel pump will transform any of the tdi's to acceptable without loosing too much if any mpg....

a 2.8 300 tdi derivated from mexic, you need the 300 tdi gearbox, and solder the new engine mounts, then 174 hp with a the big vnt turbo it have something like 470 nm at 1800 rpm...
we've put one in a 90 def ender with my wife stepfather, he enjoy everyday is "new" def.
I join Veg with the masochism, I does prefer by thousands my Range...

hmmm, seems I know more than i thought...

A 200TDi should be at least equivalent, or mostly 'peppier' than a 300tdi for sure.
The discovery originated conversion is easilly done using either of the two available downpipes.

I'm interested if anyone knows a friend who would be interested in a bit of coin for doing an engine swap *wink*

Cheers,
Dave

Discovery 200 and discovery 300tdi engines both made 111hp and 195lb ft apparently. The defender 200tdi made 107hp and 188lb ft...

Perhaps yours does need a tweak?

didn't know somebody had started selling the downpipes its been a while since i had some enthusiasm for landrovers, fixing it everyother week tends to make it a chore!
alex the engines both 300 and 200 vary alot in power and drivability as the assembly of the pump seems a bit slap dash, the 300s do spool earlier than the 200s as they run a different turbo so tend to drive better as standard. for reference in my 200 disco i don't rev over 3000rpm and often tow over 2 tonnes and upto 7 tonnes in low box, i run more boost and have adjusted the pump to suit yet still get 30mpg on a run...
