Aldershot (we are top of the league, say we are...)

Hi all

Looking to start doing some sprints and hillclimbs in the metro turbo. At the moment it is totally standard, i was thinking something along the lines of maniflow exhaust system, is it worth getting a new manifold? also dumping the e.c.u getting a bleed valve ad running 7psi boost, will i need to modify anything to do this? Also is it worth putting a noisey dump valve on it? as i have heard that these can decrease performance rather than improve.

Any other tuning ideas? im looking to do this without major modifiaction looking to get it upto about 105bhp, just enough to compete with a 1.6 peugeot 106xsi as that is what my team mate will have!

Any help much appreciated

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

to be honest, make sure its in perfect condition and that the car is as light as possible. that will go a long way, more than an extra 10bhp.

Have a search, all you need and more is on here *smiley*

quite a few members are pushing out more than double the original metro figures!

Dont worry about the exhasut. Just get an Intercooler, make sure that the timing and fueling are spot on, dump the ECU and poppet valve, get a dump valve and bleed valve, then up the boost.

My Metro turbo engine just had a P2 cam and 2WD Cossie cooler. 10psi saw 110bhp.

cheers guys, yeh the car is set up well, ignition timing checked all new ignition components, just rebuilt the carb and set the co to around %4 which it seems to run best at. Find it pulls very well to around 4k, performance seems to level out abit after 4k. It just has the standard re-circulating dump valve at the moment which i think only opens if the wastegate malfunctions so will adding a noisey one make any performance difference?

It will not make any difference if you keep the boost under 7psi.

Over that and the poppet valve will leak boost.

ok i shall look into the intercooler idea, as for the 8psi actuator, would i have to modify anything (apart from the dump valve) to run at this boost? Also this maybe a silly question but is it possible to adjust the wastegate thats on there by turning the rod that goes to it rather than buying a new one?

many thanks for the help/ideas much apreciated

You could try putting a little more preload on the actuator, you may get a little more boost.

Don't Turbo's in hillclimbs etc have some formula so its fairer on the n/a people? ie engine size x 1.5ish?
Edit: thats why some folks go for 998 turbos etc?

Would i do this by winding the actuator bar in towards the acuator or out?

What class are you planning on eneterin in Hillclims?

This will affect what modifications you can do. If running in standard roadgoing there is little oportunity for modifications of any kind.

And as pointed out above you will be running in the upto 2000cc class with your car.

I think you should bleed it, or best using a ball spring type boost controler,
as some others I highly recommend an intercooler as first mod, then an mg metro na cam or an avonbar ph2, then block the carb balance/lean tube.
then... head , gearbox, diff, exhaust

For a fun car, have you considered doing another car. Not many decent meccy turbos about, seems a shame to mod it.
Getting old & sensible. :)

I no what you mean milamber thats why i dont want to go over the top, the sprint events are for fun with a local motor club not serious, but to get a different car would invlove selling the metro, i put it on ebay, was only on there a couple of days when i realised that it would be a huge mistake, so removed the listing. Thats why i was just thinking along the lines of upping the boost abit and putting a noisey exhaust, so its all easy to put back to standard.

what do we reckon is better then for what i want a bleed valve or a 8psi actuator from avonbar?
