no mate, Band F changes to band L next year at £415 then £750 per year after 2010 this is all emissions based

modern multipoint LPG systems emit up to 70% less CO than running on petrol, the government bases there tax bands on emissions so it should be cheaper, but then the government used to give grants for conversions and did at one point cap the cost of the fuel, like everything else the grants have stopped and the fuel has risen

Bloody hell, my 2.0L Focus is going to cost £300 to tax next year!!!!

Time to get a 1.6 diesel fiesta - £30 a year.

Wolfie - I think it'll be expensive regarless of LPG. the congestion charge is going up for LPG on the basis that you can still use petrol (even if you don't).

Cunts. Vote them out.

At least the UK government are trying to do something to preserve resources and reduce the potential for climate change.

The fact that you can tax a small economical vehicle for less than £50 is good.

Pity they can't apply it to older vehicles like Minis.

Runs for cover.

Even if that was true, rather than it just being another cynical tax raising scheme to fund..... (don't get me started on illegal wars and single teenage mothers.....) the emmisions from the UK are tiny compared to what they already are in the growing economies of India, China etc., and they are going to get a lot larger, a lot faster over there, and our so called "government" is giving them financial help (with our money raised by these taxes) to do so !!!!!

Rant over.

Couldn't agree more...
This country(usa) is definately 'owned' by the big money giants who have their hand in the pies of the fuel companies (cue michael Moore film LOL).
A good example is that VW couldn't sell any diesel cars here last year - or rather they did, but they were 'stockpiled' vehicles that could pass the 2006 emmisions, but not the 2007.

The money men clearly don't want economical diesels here, as they are too fuel efficient, so make the emmisions exceptionally difficult to meet, such that no-one wants to bother. Lets be honest, what puts out more emmisions to the environment over a product life cycle of 100k miles - a TD golf, or a 2.0 golf (or even a typical 3-litre US barge - LOL).

Interesting thing over here, is the influx of these ridiculous hybrid vehicles; everyone wants a faggy hybrid to 'make a statement' about how ethical they are - These are the tree huggers that really piss me off! Not sure how badly folks are being conned into feeling obliged to buy these things in the UK, but over here if folks just stepped up and purchased a 2-litre with a manual instead of a 3-litre autobarge, things would be a lot different.

There are different types of pollutants.

There are the toxic kind that are largely under control by the use of catalytic converts etc.

Then there are greenhouse gases such as CO2 that are naturally ocurring and do no harm except heat up the Earth.

CO2 is present in the atmosphere at 0.16%, I think. It is because it ocurrs naturally at such a small amount that it is well within the capabilities of mankind to increase it beyond a safe limit.

Cows are essential to produce food. I'm sure that there is no farmer in the UK that will keep a cow unless he can market the produce. They are not there for the fun of it.

What is not essential is the stupid woman in the 5 litre 4 by 4 that she uses daily to take the kids to school, when she could do the same job with a small car.

Why should someone with a ferrari that does 200 miles a year, pay the more as someone in a mundano that does 30k a year?

Use the tax which is already on fuel, or, if you must, raise it. That's the only way to make it proportionate and fair. Anything else is an envy tax.

Edit: Or, to use your example -That 4x4 might do 3000 miles a year, school and back, shops and back and thats it. A fiesta doing 10kpa will be emiting more pollutants (CO2 and other 'real' polutants), but pays about 1 tenth of the 'green' tax as the 4x4.

We are into the realms of an endless arguement.

My views on environmental issue are extreme by TM standards, so I'm going to say no more.

I will say that the main reason for me building a TurboMini is an environmental one.

Recycle an old car and make it do 60 mpg. You cannot get greener.
