So,was round a mate's this morning to help him with his Mark 1 Escort.Welded up the front wings then he said lets go for a drive. He lives way out in the sticks so no worries about cops and such.
Anyway this Escort has a 1.8 Toyota N/A diesel engine.
We drove into a big field near his house and he gave me the wheel.
And it was fucking awesome.Fishtailing all over the place, donuts and what not.

And this got me thinking.
Can an FWD Mini give you the same buzz as a RWD car with a bit of power?
Cos if that battered ol' diesel Escort was so much fun, what's the adrenalin rush like in a Sierra Cosworth or something with a big V8???????*happy*
And if you do have something like a Cossy, won't the Mini seem a bit tame?(Bat,aiming at you here *wink* )

Cos I just can't help thinking about getting rid of all my 6(yes 6!!) Minis and building myself a V8 powered Mark 2 Escort,or something.
So help me lads!!

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Ive never been in anything that feels as quick as my mini,

Ive been in quicker cars but none of them feel so frantic

and a rwd mini could be a bit dangerous as they are so short

i think that a rear wheel drive car will be a shed load of fun but then again how ofter are you going to be going sideways and all that! once you get used to it im sure jumping into a little mini and tearing round some back lanes or a track and it just sticking to the road and pulling easily out of the corners would seem a shed load of fun!!

grass is always greener and all that...

I agree with Nic.. But see your point, RWD cars are fun as well.

Get rid of 5 of your mini's and get a RWD... But keep the 6th Its just as much fun but in a different way.

Proven 200+bhp & Avon Park 05,06,07 Class D 3rd place

there are both fun for different reasons, as they act and feel different.

For example I have mates with very powerful cars, will out do the mini in so may ways, but they all say its the most scarys and funny thing they have ever been in.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on a carb?

Tel, I got a mini for every occasion *happy*
A Turbo Nutter,a daily heap,a van for hauling,a Moke replica for trips to the beach,a blank canvas for a future project and one up for sale*happy*
Of course all of them except the last one need shit loads of work ehh. . . .

I certainly can't afford a V8 RWD project right now but maybe someday. . .

Sooo True..I find there are two types of TurboMini passengers

The ones that giggle uncontrollably... (e.g. My wife in the old Mini!)

The ones that turn white Hold on to something and scream at me to slow down (Actually thats also my wife in the New MINI!!)

I love it, esp in this 4X4 country... Remember, anything smaller than a Crown Victoria is considered dangerous here. I had a bunch of young guys in a pickup taking the piss at some lights the other day, On green I lit it up and at the next lights they had found some respect!!

Hi,
3dr Cossie, you can't beat it for the way it just stuffs you into the seat in an almost refined manner! :)
It's almost bomb proof @330bhp, loads of room, comfortable, etc.
But the mini is just as much fun for the way it frightens people inside and out and shows the hot matches how it's done :)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I will agree will Nic on this one. Mini is far too short to be stable. I think you need a Escort size minimum for the thing to handle. Even going down the 4wd route, too short. Look at the 6R4, great machine but had little success.
But then the Sierra Sapphire was unsuccessful in rallying due to a long wheelbase.

I have a an e30 bmw, its ony a 318 but its fun to hang the tail out on, have had more power bm's in the past, but the amount of fun you can have in a mini is just as good, but its whatever floats you boat ( as ive found now my turbo mini is running)You dont need anything expensive to have fun with rwd, buy a volvo 360, cheep as chips! usually low milage, and unthrashed,

Hi,
Never drove a 3.0 litre, I had a 280 Brooklands which I fitted a Turbo Technics kit to. That was fantastic! *happy*

RWD Mini = junk. It's way too short. Why not buy a MK1 Escort and sell the Mini. Gorgeus if made up decently.

mk1 RS1600 is the only way! Alot of money, if you can find one. *wink*
Or Opel Ascona, very forgiving RWD.

BDA lumps were abit more reliable than the lotus. I'm sure the RS1800 had an alloy block. Been a few years, so maybe wrong.

I can't wait to get my Holden done, 550 bananas and RWD. That's the plan anyway, once the mini is finished.
