the smoke is more thick and white rather than thin and blue

Hi,
Thick white would suggest your "burning" a lot of water in there.
What happened with the original problem?
Are you losing water now?
Was the head skimmed?
Is the exhaust full of water from when the head gasket went last time?
Is the turbo a water cooled one?
Is the inlet manifold a water cooled one?
Basically any where water can get into the combustion chamber.
If none of the above you could have a cracked head...
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
Pull the plugs out after a bit of a run.
If one or more come out looking brand new, that's your problem! *surprised*

Hi,
Well yeah, the clean plug basically means it's been steam cleaned! *surprised*
If it's only one plug could well be a cracked head :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

May be worth re-torquing the head down with another torque wrench, yours could be out of calibration?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

firstley the heads fine ...i can assure that!! *smiley*

if its NOT losing water then its an oil problem

next you need to do a compression test to determin if the rings are goosed

if this checks out ok..?
then the problem will lie with the TURBO!

your torque wrench is it callibrated right.. ?
far too often people on this forum have fallen in to the trap of a ... craped out torque wrench giving a lower reading than its set for .... peeps often blame the head gasket warped heads ....etc on this common fault :(
the head shoud be torqed to 55ft pounds and use another torque wrench to compare

let us know how you go on *smiley*

I thought that I was the only dummy that used a dodgy torque wrench.

It's worth a check though, as I got through 3 gaskets before I found that my wrench was cracking off at less than half of the set torque.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Hi,
Do a compression test (dry and wet) and a leakdown test too if possible. See what you've got.
Although Steve has said the heads not cracked, you can't be 100% sure.
I've had a head pressure tested fine, only for the crack to open up after running for 20 minutes then it smoked like a train.
Not trying to rubbish your work Steve.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

also... the smoke smells very fuel like... and the tapets are not done!

so maybe a good set up might sort thigns out?

or wouldnt that make lots of smoke?

black and dry or black and wet?

if they are dry and sooty it could just be rich, if black and wet (oily) then its.... oil.

pop the boost hose of and see if its oily in there, if so its the turbo.

I've never seen a car give clouds of smoke due to being too rich,

if its oil it wont take much to make it smoke, little enough that you wont notice the oil level drop unless you frive it for some time.

also oil smoke can seem white to peaple that are not familiar with it, water smoke is white and cloudy (just like when you start on a cold morning) oil smoke can be a light sky blue and "hangs" in the air a bit more.

if all else fails and you get really stuck with this, does your brake pedal creep at all? if it does whip your master cylinder forward and check inside the servo for any fluid. if there is change your master cylinder. this will cause smoke as well, although the way you are talking im not sure it would cause enough, but alot of smoke to some could be different to others.

anyway like i say thats an outside chance if you get really stuck and youve checked everything else, check the easy things as above first!

Hi,
A lot of excess fuel will cause white/blue smoke, try shutting the fuel pump off and see if it clears....

AHEM!!!

Unless you are somewhere obscure I'd bet there is someone not far away from you with Mini Turbo knowledge.
