i have a similar app on my n95, short of being a full blown data logger there is not much it cant do....it is very accurate aswell, it can pick up the transition point on the tubbies and the slightest wheel spin, does not give bhp readout though just acceleration, speed, laptimer and 6 other input channels it can be overlay onto google maps and will show the route travelled, also export to a spread sheet where bhp can be calculated

But is it worth it buying something like that? I'd be terrified to take it out of the box let alone take it to work with me,all that dust and filth and me lying on top of it in my pocket.
Too delicate for me*happy*

I doubt it would work without gps, maybe link it to a bluetooth gps reciever.

It works based on the in-built accelerometer, not GPS. Similar to a G-Tech

That's why it won't work on a Blackberry.

The accelerometer won't be able to tell what speed you are doing, so it needs GPS.

Downloaded this yesterday to my iPhone V1 (No GPS) and I can confirm that it works without the GPS!

I set it up for my GF's mini 35 with a guesstimate of 1500lbs for the weight and 22% drivetrain loss and headed to a private stretch of road.

She did little a run (She was as excited as me about the new gadget), and managed a 19.38 1/4, 0-60 in 11.37, 0.54 G's acceleration, and it calculated the power at 70bhp.

It really is a great bit of software, and who could quibble for the £7 asking price!

Acceleration x time = velocity

GPS is not needed to determine speed.
Has been done by the various G-Tech units and even with Nintendo Wii remotes.

I take it once you reach 60 you brake and it detects that then?

No need to brake, it knows what speed you are doing.

You do a Standing 1/4 mile and it works everything out from that.

It gives you

0-10 @ X mph
0-20 @ X mph
0-30 @ X mph
etc, up to the terminal speed.

1/8 mile time @ X mph

It does an average for the vehicle (multiple vehicles can be added). Also, you can make a note of modifications made so that you can compare before and after.

There's a G meter that can measure lateral G's as well as acceleration & deceleration.

I'm going to give it a go in my car on the way home from the rollers tomorrow.

I have a G-Tech and it does all the basic stuff, didn't cost much at all.. check em out on e-bay.
I just have the "classic" version like this..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/G-TECH-PERF...6.c0.m245.l1318

Mine has a number of applications but the main one is 0-60 and 60-0 and standing 1/4 mile.

You accellerate from a standing start and It detects weather you have dropped your speed below 60mph before you hit the 1/4 mile point. If so it displays 0-60 and 60-0 times , if you continue accellerating for the full 1/4 mile it gives a 1/4 mile time and terminal speed.

It works fine, occasionally I get a bum reading I think due to it gettting rattled around in the Mini but its pretty consistant and on various cars shows figures that make sense.
