What differences can you feel Rob? I'm considering having mine done, simply for more grunt.

not had my VW done, but i know people that have Tom, and it make it feel like a different car, in some cases some thing silly like 50 lbft + can be gained. the down side of the ones i've seen is they do chuch out more black shit every time you boot it.

I got a chip made in Germany and TUV approved(sorry cant remember tyhe make) and it transformed the car, with so much more torque that wheelspin in the wet was usual, even at low revs and throttle. Its doing 50+mpg at the moment, using a light foot,so no penalties as far as I can see.No black shit(Unburned diesel particulates)either !

to be fair to them, as the car is the 2.5, they were quick to point out it wouldn't be as significant at the 1.9 & 2.0 4-pots. However, there is still far better pick-up/ response, particularly from low revs and the torque has increased significantly. Towing is a dream.

I'm assuming yours is the 150bhp - not sure what the figures will be for it but you should notice a fair bit.

As a guidance, mine was the 180bhp and supposidly went up to 210-220 with an increase up to 410nm torque? the wife has a 225bhp TT and quite frankly the A4 goes better (although she won't admit it!).

All that and I'm now getting 34.3mpg overal avarage as opposed to 29.7mpg just before I had the work done and can get nearly 40mpg on a motorway run if i take it easy

Can't recall how much it cost now though - think the list was about £395 inc.

I got an AMD one click from AMD technik when my wife had a Fabia VRS. They are Audi approved. plus with the oneclick you can swap between your standard and modified maps.

Loads more power had to feed it it so it didn't slip the clutch... and this was on a brand new car..

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I still can't understand how you can get more mpg from chipping a diesel. More power is easy, but on cruise can tuning companies really lean it out further than OEM? If so all that would happen is the car produes less power and goes slower, it just doesn't make sence.

There must be a human factor involved that the tuning companies rely on, can anybody explain the mpg thing?

they don't really do chipping, they remap the ecu very much like a megajolt, and by remapping the ecu this makes the engine run more ecomomically and to its optimum performance. Thats my understanding anyway. The question i would ask is why manufacturers don't do it as standard?

I had my old Golf chipped and it made such a difference to throttle response and smooth power delivery! Im looking into getting a Gttdi for towing (only short distances) next year and ill be getting it chipped immediatley... Id deffo reccomend getting VAG engines chipped *wink*

Chipping, remapping, you know what I mean. But how can that make an engine more efficient. It can't. Yes on a diesel put in more fuel it goes faster, easy, but more MPG I can't believ it.

Ben,

in my case I think the economy comes from the fact you don't have to push the car as hard to do the same as before - hence less throttle, less fuel. Thats how I see it as a layman anyway - I'm sure some boffin will have a technical answer!

economy is one benefit, but i think most people get them done for performance, i had my 20vt seat ibiza cupra re-mapped by revo. its now 210bhp and loads of torque, i'm suprised the little traction control light is still working it flashes so much

My mate had his golf GT Tdi done at Chipped UK in Bromsgrove... Dont know if that is the same place. Had it dyno'd after and it went from 140bhp to 178bhp and a massive increase in torque... Said it was a ST3 unit that they installed but cost around the £400 mark so not cheap...

I really would like a technical explantaion, but no body seems to know. On a diesel you simply add more fuel to get more power, but to get a set amount of power you need a set amount of fuel (assuming that the engine internals, inlet, exhaust stay the same) So saying you are lighter on the throttle means nothing. To do 60mph before the remap will take the same amount of fuel as after. Anyway this is all a bit OT now.

You can remove many of the emissions limitations - such as EGR or 3 stage injection.

From loosing these you gain MPG.

Then theres the fact that if you produce more power at any given RPM then you will throttle back to remain at the same speed. Again saving fuel.

Tom, pm coming your way!

I agree Ben... The thing is that it must lean out when cruising. Hitting the loud pedal will ofcourse use more diesel than before. It just have to! Same goes for petrol cars.

I will give you a 7 day no quibble money back guarantee on that fact you get more MPG from your diesel.
