I was sat in the car the otherday after fitting the seats properly and noticed that i was sat smack inline with the door post/seat anchor point. And it suddenly dawned on me how bad it would be if i were bannanad by another car. I would surely bray my head on the door post (probably killing me instantly).

Its the role of the body in the seated position that allows this to happen. Your head should not be able to pass beyond the width of your shoulders. So if you are wearing a harness your head wont get close your shoulder will get it first. Own the day

Yeah the point isnt the cage though Paul its the door pillar! How'd you mean angle the seat, you could tilt it 90deg foward but it might make reaching the steering wheel a challenge haha. Are you going to get a helmet for going to Asda's you mean, or for when youre on track where you obviously need one. I think if you wear a lid in a car on the road, the police would think wtf is he going to be driving like to warrant needing a lid, understandable in kit cars etc though. if you want to give it a good blast on country roads why not wear a lid? still going to use it on track so why not use it when your giving it beans? they are easy to take on and off

Here in Ireland It is acutely illegal to wear a helmet in a road car on public roads a friend was done by a local cop for wearing his helmet wile driving from one rally stage to another he total forgot to take his helmet of as he had had it on all morning during the stage he was running. I think and im no 100% sure on this but they got him for dangers driving something to do with the fact he did not hear thee sirens how craze but trough. I think most of the road traffic laws here are derived from English legislation so its most likely illegal over your side of the pond to.

As far as I understand it is illegal in the UK too. Lets face it if you are that scared of injury then don't drive a mini. Ok you can minimise injury to some extent, but if you want to get it as low as possible buy a modern car and tow your mini to tracks. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

spot on Ben, we need to minimize risk where possible, but when things become impracticable it is time to ass the risk and make a calculated judgment as to weather the risk is worth taking in this case you have every much a likely hood of being killed in a crash situation by a piece of you car impaling you which no amount or crash helmets will protect you from. Get out there enjoy the mini and don’t let the Safety police drive you totally lampy. On 17th Feb, 2009 Rob H said:

its not the forward motion that will kill you its the latterall, your head will clatter the B pillar (pending on where ure seat is) i have removed my door glass and gone for poly carb as they give a lil bit more than glass, i will be lagging all the cage around the door aperture, and my open face helmet will be used on track days / Nerberg etc etc.
