Is anyone using these thin plates that you can get to sit above the gearsets? If so what do you think of them? I can see advantages and disadvantages to them and just wandered what everyone else take on it was?

I can only see that your bores and camshaft might have there oil spray from the box stopped, there for it might make things wear out faster.

I fabricated my own (which I am considering testing the market) and have run it for several years with no problems. The engine shouldnt need spray from the gearbox as it was first designed to have a seperate gearbox anyway.
Ill get some pics up shortly

I seriously doubt it!

Paul do you have under crown cooling jets?

My only concern would be increased wear on the bores due to bore washing if you were running rich, obviously if you're fueling is correct this won't be an issue.

all the oil comming out of the big ends and mains gets flicked everywhere anyway so i shouldnt think the bores would suffer!!

Rob, I run n/a so no undercrown jets and yes my fuelling is spot on. Tbh I cant see that any oil would get past my crank to the bores anyway at 8000 rpm plus.

Heres my tray

Its made from 1mm NS4 (hard aluminium)

At a guess, Id say around the £50 mark with the fixings.
Considering others of a similar design are around £100 its quite cheap.
Any interest then?

looks nice what you have done Paul, do you find your camshaft last ok? was just worried about the cam not getting much needed oil on it.

Ive used the same cam now for 6 years, still no wear on it, and Im only just now replacing my pistons and rings after 6 years too.

If you think about it though, oil flings off the crank big ends after coming through the bearings, thats got to be enough

Paul,

I'll take one as soon as they are ready.

I see what your saying Paul, Well 6years and NO wear, looks like there are no issues with that set up, Nice one. So what are the benifits you think? Is it done just to stop the drag from the crank on the spraying oil coming from the box?

Yes, it supposedly stops the spray of oil from the gears, that is thrown upwards, hitting the crank and slowing it down.
Ive seen wild claims that it releases around 3-5 hp but I dont believe that myself. I do believe that it helps the engine pick up sooner though, which is great for my n/a but would be good on a turbo too as it would possibly get over the lag sooner.
An example. My 310SC cam used to pick up at 4,000rpm, after fitting the baffle it picks up from 3,200 in 4th gear from 40mph

bollocks, i've just made one of these!

nowhere near as nice either.....

I'm sure i've said this before but i'll say it anyway....

the box sprays unfiltered oil onto the bores and cam etc, i much prefer the idea of stopping this and just letting the filtered oil from the crank get there.

If your paranoid about the bores and cam whack in som oil jets and use a drilled cam.
