Got myself a nice Avonbar actuator so I can set my base boost pressure around the 8psi level.
If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Just don't use a bleed valve, use a boost controller, look a the lines from greddy etc......they are far more accurate and less likely to boost spike!!!! "Cars are a lifetime of pain" |

As said, don't use a bleed valve they're not very good - you want to be looking for one with a ball and spring - there's plenty about.

i dont know if its possible, but i think he means using them inline, so he cant go over 15psi? |

thats right barry. want to plumb them in inline. one locked to 15psi so that i can't go above it. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

An electronic boost controller is a bit rich for me unfortunately. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

It is entirely possible, my setup uses a 3 pipe bleed valve under the bonnet and instead of bleeding to atmosphere the 3rd pipe is connected to an air solanoid - i can open and close this at on the flick of a switch to go between my actuators 10psi and the bled off higher boost setting.

ive swapped from a £10 bleed valve to an £10 mbc on my t5, and the boost is steady/constant now, with the bleed valve it used to tail off a psi or 2 (wastegate creep?) "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

I use a bleed valve and have NEVER had a boost spike. There are much cheaper if your on a budget like some people are. Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

It doesn't really work that way - if one is set higher than the other, then its the higher boost that will run all the time - so by setting one at 15PSi all the time will mean your minimum boost is 15PSi. use one, set it to 15psi. have the fueling set-up. then use your right foot to control things. simpler, cheaper, lighter, better. |

Aye - I have one boost controller and one boost level - lots. On 15th Jul, 2009 fastcarl said:

Mine will be like this, not sure if the pic works though http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=10015 This way the actuator will be the low boost setting and the mbc/bleed valve will determine the high setting when you flick the switch. |

Lol maybe i will just do that instead. That was my original plan. but thought less boost may be a good idea for cruise. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

That's what i mean, set your bleed valve to 15psi with the solenoid open, then when you want less just turn the switch off. |

When you're cruising you won't be on boost. On 15th Jul, 2009 fastcarl said:

well perhaps thats the decision made then. 15psi-ish no bleed valve.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=AETTS-0105-1001 :) two stage boost jobs done £127 for 2 bleed valves, spring loaded (lime an mbc) t-piece and a solenoid? either use a bleed valve / mbc or bleed/mbc wiht a solenoid for 2 stage . electronic boost controllers are only any use if your constantly changeing boost, or if they have the ability to do gear-dependant boost controll! im a fan of bleed valves, tehre simple, reliable, and coz there under the bonet your not tempted to tweak them mid-race :) turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

I'm glad this topic has been raised, just as Im looking to rework my non opperational boost controll. What solenoids do people use for this? I tried one off a Scooby but it wouldnt flow any more than 6 psi!
