Hi,

I saw the link of a good solution. Posted on a Dutch messageboard of mini's. A member is now using this on his A-series

http://www.hotrocker.com/

Check the test results: http://www.hotrocker.com/tests.html

Always massive torque in the low rpm's, and high bhp's in high rev's. This is the ideal solution, now you're not used to use a turbo/supercharger for fast and powerful riding.

To be honest, I don't see how that's going to give a 100% gain in power....

Interesting, but no substitute for turboing.

Links don't work for me.

Nice idea Vtec like. But if NA it will only produce the NA power, Turbo will always make more.

I've looked at that site, but what is it that makes the rocker shaft move position? Inertia?

no there is an ecu so i am guessing there is a solenoid/motor of some description to do it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

No reason they couldnt be used with a turbo or Sc is there. If there is an ecu just set it up to suit.

It's a little servo that moves the shaft, the servo motor bolts to the rocker cover

Would something like this improve spool up on a turbo engine?

Too dear for me but maybe there are some rich boys on here who will give it a go.

Surely the shaft is going to have to move pretty fast to keep up with the spool up? i.e. it moves ratio between rev ranges (from my understanding?) surely between 2.5k and 3.5k a turbo will jump between this range in milli seconds, surely the servo wouldn't keep up? not sure about this, its meant for lazy v8's.

I could be totally wrong though!

It's cute but as far as I can see, it's only varying valve lift, not valve timing.

never going to be as good as forced induction surley? simply because your not getting 100%VE where as with turbo etc you can quite easily, more air+more fuel= more bang, its rather simple. you wont be able to do any sort of induction length tuning because thats altering oscilation times n stuff.
maybe i should read the link though incase the answers are in there

good if you want a reasonable power motor that will behave in traffic/ be nicer to drive "normally"

for a racer? you would just fit a cam/rocker assy to give you the peak lift.....surely?

Carl will have made some of these in 1973 and decided they were a crap idea immediately. They will now be residing in his shed beneath such other before-their-time inventions first coined by Carl in the mid seventies such as the BMW K head conversion (scrapheap challenge as he likes to call it) and the electric handbrake.
